LOUDNESS vocalist Minoru Niihara's long standing second band XYZ-A, formed in 1999, released their fifth full length album, Wings, in North America under the name ASIAN TYPHOON via Nightmare Records on March 18th. In his column, Chris will be answering reader’s questions from his unique drumming perspective, as well as suggesting and teaching new drum techniques. Ted Nugent will reach a milestone this summer when the singer/guitarist will play his 6,000th concert during his three month tour in the US. The trek starts June 7th in Sandusky, OH and concludes September 27th in Reno, NV, during which time the Motor City Madman will play 40 North American concerts sandwiched around eight European shows, July 7th - 14th.

Greece's ROTTING CHRIST and Brazil's KRISIUN will team up for the Summer Rituals Tour 2008 in June/July. The trek will cover mostly Spain and Portugal and will include appearances at three big summer festivals: Hellfest (France), Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) and With Full Force (Germany). Special guest act for the club shows will be RAVENCULT from Athens, Greece.

LENG TCH’E’s vocalist steps down ! According to a band’s statement, today is another step in the never ending evolution of LENG TCH'E. Boris has decided to step down and will be replaced by Serge Kasongo from southern Belgian band ACKROS. None of the upcoming shows will be cancelled and the recordings of the split CD with Fuck The Facts will also go ahead as planned. Check out the band’s Myspace for more here !

SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner, former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, ex-JUDAS PRIEST/ICED EARTH and current Beyond Fear/Yngwie Malmsteen singer Tim "Ripper" Owens and DAITRIBE guitarist Tristan "1690" Grigsby have joined forces to record a song for the upcoming tribute album to late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Entitled "Leave It Alone", the track features solos by special guests Nick Bowcott (ex-GRIM REAPER) and fan Brian Cashmore. Check this song here !

Finland’s dark rockers POISONBLACK have just launched their first song, „Left Behind“, from their upcoming album ‘A Dead Heavy Day’ on their myspace profile. POISONBLACK’s third album was recorded at Soundmix Studio in their hometown Oulu with Kari Vähäkuopus and mixed by Aksu Hanttu at Grooveland Studio in Lahti.Check out this new song here !

Nuclear Blast is very proud to announce its newest signing : technical brutal Death Metal institution DECREPIT BIRTH from Santa Cruz, California. The band, founded in 2001, has so far released two highly acclaimed albums, "…And Time Begins" and "Diminishing Between Worlds" in 2003 and 2008.

Death metal veterans SIX FEET UNDER are in the midst of a 12-day stay at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, FL working on their tenth – as yet untitled – studio album. This new album will be mixed by Toby Wright (SLAYER, METALLICA, ALICE IN CHAINS) and is expected to be released in October or November on Metal Blade.

NEVERMORE guitarist JEFF LOOMIS has finished mixing "the ultimate shred record" according to an update. Producer Neil Kernon (QUEENSRŸCHE, CANNIBAL CORPSE) is currently at the helm at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington. Drummer Mark Arrington joins Loomis on the as-yet-untitled album, due out later this year via Century Media. Check out Jeff’s Myspace here !

SEBASTIAN BACH has issued the following blog: "I am currently filming the show Gone Country 2 for the CMT Network. The object of the show is for each cast member to write and perform their own song. We will perform our songs live on Wednesday night (May 14th) at the WildHorse Saloon in Nashville, TN. So come on out and cheer me on, and get on TV at the same time! Admission to the show is free! Did I mention it's free?". Alongside Bach, the cast of Gone Country 2 includes Grammy and Academy Award winner Irene Cara, American Idol finalist Mikalah Gordon, singer Jermaine Jackson, NSYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick, actor Lorenzo Lamas and actress Sean Young. John Rich returns as host and judge of the show which will begin airing in August.

Finnish melodic death metal band ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW has inked a new recording deal with the Finnish label KHY Suomen Musiikki Oy. The group is currently in pre-production for its sixth album, which is tentatively expected in March 2009. As was the case with the band's previous five LPs, the forthcoming effort will be recorded at Tico-Tico Studio in Kemi, Finland. The as-yet-untitled CD has already been licenced to Massacre Records (which will be release the album in Europe excluding Finland) and Marquee/Avalon (which will make the record available in Asia).

Long-running California grindcore outfit PHOBIA has almost completed its new record. The band has 22 songs featured on this release. PHOBIA's new record will be released on CD via Willowtip and on vinyl through Deep Six. PHOBIA will team up with IMPALED and MARUTA for a summer tour in August and September. EXTREME will make their much-anticipated return to the stage this summer in support of Saudades de Rock (pronounced "sow-dodge"), their first studio album in 13 years. The multi-platinum, Boston-bred band's 2008 Take Us Alive world tour gets underway on July 29th at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and will be anchored by a hometown gig two days later at the Bank of America Pavilion. In advance of the tour, Extreme will be a co-headliner on July 11th at the five day Rocklahoma Festival in Pryor, OK. The iconic rock foursome – vocalist Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo – will be supported by KING'S X on all North American dates.

Guitar amp company Hughes & Kettner conducted an interview with KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer earlier this week, while the band was in Germany rehearsing for its current European tour. Check it out on WICKED NEWS !

Montreal trash metal band OVIF is recording it's first album next week with recording guru Glen Robinson (Voivod, GWAR etc..). The album will feature 13 songs with 5 of them in french and should come out mid-June. Details can be found at here !

CNN International, one of the world's premier international News broadcasters, travelled with IRON MAIDEN on Ed Force One in March through Colombia and Brazil to film live and behind the scenes with the band during the Somewhere Back In Time tour. More info here !

Murder The Dance, the sophomore album for Oklahoma City's BLEED THE SKY, is set for release in North America on June 10. The album was produced and engineered by Christian Olde Wolbers (FEAR FACTORY), mixed by Ben Schigel at Spider Studios, and mastered by Matt Rosebery at Skin Deep Studios.

Metal Mind Productions will release re-united Thrashers EXHORDER's 1990 album, Slaughter In The Vatican, and 1992's The Law, on May 19th in Europe / July 8th in USA (via MVD). New digipak edition is limited to numerated 2000 copies. The band is currently in writing mode.

The reformed lineup of Netherlands-based death metallers ASPHYX have announce that they will soon release their new single, 'Death The Brutal Way'. The band describe the single as "a 7" EP with one brand new crusher and one asphyxiated version of "Os Abysmi Vel Daath" a Celtic Frost cover-song taken from "Monotheist". The single will be available soon via Iron Pegasus Records. 'Death The Brutal Way' is currently streaming at the band's MySpace here !

Swedish art-rockers CULT OF LUNA have revealed a brand new song on the band's MySpace page. The track, titled "Eternal Kingdom", comes off the band's upcoming album of the same name. Listen to this exclusive track here !

KISS is back in Europe ! The band rocked a sold out Oberhausen Arena tonight in Germany, and the fans returned the favor. The crowd was almost as loud and energetic as KISS - standing, singing and screaming throughout the band's entire performance. British black metal veterans HECATE ENTHRONED are currently working on their seventh full-length album at an undisclosed location in Cheshire, UK. The group's first release since 2004's "Redimus" coincides with a major new publishing deal with former Warner Chapell Music publishing head Jana Yell as well as plans for a massive European and U.S. tour. The 3rd KATAPLEXIA album is ready. "Supreme Authority" was recorded during the months of March/ April featuring a special session drummer, Timo Häkkinen from SOTAJUMALA. Season of Mist is really proud to announce that legendary American progressive jazzy death metal band CYNIC just joined the roster ! The release of CYNIC's sophomore album, which will be out on Season of Mist fifteen years after "Focus", is set to next autumn. Shaped around founding members Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, the new line-up sees the return of bass god Sean Malone and the addition of Dutch guitarist Tymon Kruidenier who will also be in charge of 'death' vocals. The band are set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy Award winning Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA, etc.) to begin work on their long-awaited follow-up to "Focus". The album will contain eight songs, and the band are working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus"), and the new album will be preceded by additional live shows, including a special appearance at Wacken Open Air, Germany, on next August 1st. you can check the band's new MySpace here !

X-WORLD/5 will release their debut album “New Universal Order” on May 16th. Founded by Magnus Rosèn (ex-Hammerfall), together with Pagan..s Mind singer Nils K. Swedish death metallers UNANIMATED have signed with Regain Records. On July 26th, the band will enter the studio to start the recording of a new album with the working title "In The light Of Darkness (The Covenant Of Death)". And has just finished re-mastering its two albums "In the Forrest Of The Dreaming Dead" and "Ancient God Of Evil"...together with The "Firestorm" Demo and some bonus material and a brand new lay out. Death metal band BRUTALITY have found a new drummer. His name is Angelo Duca (ex-Contorted). The band is working on getting tight on their old songs and working on new ones. They will be in the studio and playing shows in a few months. Metal Mind Production will re-release “Screams of Anguish”, “When The Sky Turns Black”, and “In Mourning” the 3 full length albums Brutality released in their Nuclear Blast days, on 19th May 2008 in Europe /8th July 2008 in USA (via MVD). European death metal butchers ABORTED with members hailing from Belgium, France and the UK are working hard on their sixth full-length, ‘Strychnine.213’. UK rockers THE WILDHEARTS are set to release ‘Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before Vol 1’ digitally on May 19th. US death metal act COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN has disbanded and reformed under the name ORDER OF ENNEAD. New members and vocal style are the reason for this change. The End Records reports that Finnish monster rock n' roll band LORDI have entered the studio to record their fourth album, the follow-up to The Arockalypse. The recordings should be finished by summer, with the new album due out later this year.

HeadbangersBlog.com have exclusively revealed that singer Tommy Cummings has been fired from DIVINE HERESY. The move came after Cummings flew into a rage during a show on April 26th in Poughkeepsie, New York when the other players wouldn’t let him end the set early. According to Dino, “He gave us 10 different reasons why we should stop (…) We felt that he wanted to end the show early to go hang out at the New England Metal Fest, which we were supposed to be performing at the next day.” Read more here !

WITCHBREED, the fast-rising Portuguese metal band featuring ex-Moonspell member Ares, has officially begun the work for their debut album on 22nd April. Witchbreed has entered MedusaLab Studios in Portugal with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Samael, Tiamat, MoonSpell) for nine intense days of pre-production followed by full recordings during May and June and finally mixing and mastering back in Germany by Waldemar Sorychta himself in July. Ascendance Records will unleash the band’s debut album this Autumn. The title of Witchbreed's debut will be "Heretic Rapture". Check out the band’s Myspace here !

Eddie Van Halen recently spoke to People Magazine about his health, in the wake of the unspecified medical tests that forced Van Halen to postpone 21 shows last month. There are still no public details on exactly what ailed, or ails, the guitarist, but he says, quote, "I feel excellent. I'm healthier than I've ever been. It's wonderful."

Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin is currently working on a new record that is set to feature Velvet Revolver/former GN'R bassist Duff McKagan. "I got to play on Izzy's new record yesterday (April 24th) in Ojai (California)," McKagan told Izzy Sradlin fan-site Chopaway.com. Another stellar outing by that dude I must say. Always a pleasure hanging with that guy, a true gentleman."

"Comin' Atcha Live! 2008”, the long anticipated live concert DVD filmed live in Minnesota this year (on February 28th) is the first live concert DVD released by TESLA since Five Man Acoustical Jam and will feature many bonus features including an exclusive look at the band's gear and behind-the-scenes life on the road. Scheduled to be released in June, the DVD will be available in all retail stores.

"A Stellar Kingdom", the third album of Moscow metal band RADIGOST, is released by Hadahardz Music. It was recorded at Moscow Z-Studio & Navahohut Sound. Radigost is a famous Russian metal band with two released albums that are stylistically close to doom-black-pagan metal. It has also played a lot of successful gigs in Russia.
