Music, art ,good people, and travelling are my passions. I am an Afro/Latin percussionist, vibed by music that lifts people to dance. There is no better medicine on our beautiful planet. I teach rhythm classes from my school of percussion in Witta,'Upbeat Rhythms',and facilitate workshops at festivals and events, ranging from African to Latin ensemble music and my latest addition,- Afro/Cuban Carnival rhythms, inspired by my revisit to Cuba last year. I am also a singer/songwriter, and have written a repertoire of songs which will be recorded very soon. My performance groups include a Duo act with, singer/guitarist Murray Wall and our afro-latin/funk/Jazz band 'WASABI', joined by hot saxophonist/writer, Johan van Gelder and bass and drums. I co-formed and played with Afro rhythm ensemble 'Zabahtu' for many years. These percussionists now form the core of Upbeat Rhythms band, the 'Obi Abata'big band which is preparing for upcoming Summer shows. My latest band,is latin quartet 'CANTA LA TUMBA',an exciting ensemble that explores Cuban musica tradicional. * photo by Nisa Richy * Upcoming GIGS AND WORKSHOPS * Sun March 2 CELEBRATING WITH MARY FESTIVAL Nelson Park Gympie CUBAN CARNIVAL WORKSHOP/ WASABI/ZABAHTU Sun March 23 CONSULTANTS OF SWING @ Kenilworth Bluff Winery Sat May 10 WASABI @ The Upfront Club, Maple st Maleny 7pm Sat May 10 AFRICAN DRUM WORKSHOP @ Amamoor Hall 9.30-2.30 drumming intensive, open to all levels Sat June 21 WASABI playing @ Environment Day, University of the Sunshine Coast Sat July 26 Natalie Richy & Murray Wall @ Cairncross Cafe, Maleny 1-4pm Sat Aug 9 AFRICAN DRUMMING WORKSHOP @ Amamoor Hall 9.30-2pm Fri Aug 15 Natalie Richy, Murray Wall & Kit Cotter @ The Upfront Club, Maleny Sun Aug 31 CANTA LA TUMBA @ Festuri Multicultural Festival Sat Sept 20 AFRICAN DRUMMING @ Amamoor Hall Sat Oct 11 WASABI @ The Upfront Club, Maleny 8pm Sat Oct 16 AFRICAN DRUMMING @ Cooran Market 9.30-11.30 Sat Oct 16 AFRICAN/LATIN drumming clinic @ Caloundra Music Festival Fri Oct 24 OBI ABATA @ Wild Womens Concert Maleny Community Centre Fri Nov 21 CANTA LA TUMBA @ Finbars, Maleny Sat Nov 29 UPBEAT RHYTHMS - Village Dance Party Fri Dec 5 OBI ABATA @ Maleny Street Carnival January 2009 African/Latin drumming at SUNFEST Gladstone March 21 2009 CANTA LA TUMBA & African Drumming Workshop @ Celebrating with Mary Festival, Gympie.
