"Singing For Life!"

About Me

Steven De Hay, known in music circles as Stevie D, is a lifetime musician. He has led a number of bands over the years and has played across all sorts of venues from bars, to fairs, to churches. He has written his own works during the past twenty years, but has only recently begun to record and make them known. When asked who he is, his relpy is: "If you want to know me, listen to my music. It's all there. I am in them all. My life is a song; full of paradox, irony, and metaphor. I have lived on top of the world and in the gutter; I've experienced pain and sickness, vigor and health. I've felt both the freedom and chains of prosperity, as well as poverty. It has always been true that my restless soul finds peace most easily when I am surrounded by walls of sound in the midst of playing music. The gift of music that was given to me by God has been my comfort my entire life. I have run a long and difficult race that has taken me as far as I can go from my Savior, and I am steadily making my way back. I was lost and now I am found.

Want this badge?Instrumentation and Vocals--Stevie D. Written and Produced by Stevie D. (Exceptions noted below) I have taken to, with occasional exception, writing and arranging my music and lyrics, recording and producing all of the songs presented, by myself. I have written one Blog so far regarding copyright information on two of the above songs. I will continue to Blog any other talent playing with me in the production process. Otherwise, I play all of the instruments and sing the vocals, lead and harmony, and produce it accordingly. I DO THIS only because I hear so much specific sound in my head that I have to get it out a certain way, true to my inner self and experience. All of the songs I write are extremely close and personal to me--veritable "windows to my own soul." I hope you enjoy them all. Stevie D.

Influences: For the Blues, B.B. King and Albert King were the most influential. For acoustic sound and vocals, James Taylor and Randy Stonehill lead the pack. Overall, Eric Clapton would be the single most influential guitar man. Bands like Cream, Jackson Brown, The Eagles, Doobie Brothers, ZZ Top, and Grand Funk Railroad come up in my mind as being of primary significance, as well as earlier sounds from the 5os and 6os like Buddy Holly, the Bobby Fuller Four, and the Chi-lites. The Outlaw influences of Johnny Cash, Willie & Waylon pervade me to this very day. The Lyrics given us by Kris Kristofferson seem to have created their own depth in meaning to many of us. As a Songwriter/Singer/Musician, there is no one of greater positive influence in my life, musically, than Clint Black. He has my undying respect and gratitude for succeeding and showing me that it can be done. I have always been a sucker for a full melodic sound and strong harmony vocals. Back it with a good strong groove in the rhythm section and that is where HITS are born.
Sounds Like: I have been told that the music I create and play sounds like no one else. I have also been told that, from song to song to song, my voice sounds different in each one. It has also been said that none of my songs sound like the next. I hope this is all true, for it is the first goal of any artist to be original.
