About Me

Someplace to Crash is a band that not only represents camaraderie on and off the stage, but also symbolizes a group that is constantly challenging themselves while trying to fill the gaps in an otherwise disconnected world with their music.
The members of Someplace to Crash (Vocalist/guitarist Anthony Demaggio, bassist Mike Knight, drummer Justin Strong, and guitarist John Urbanchock) have been together for less than a year, save for Strong and Demaggio, who have been collaborating musically for the past decade. In those few months as a band they have managed to establish a unique sound that tends to speak for itself, with all members bringing something different to the table.
Anthony Demaggio draws the listener in first with breathy vocals that are relaxing and heartbreaking at the same time. There is melancholy in his voice and defeat in his demeanor. Demaggio is the quintessential brooding poet, yet its that darkness and detachment that draws people to him.
His soothing vocals are countered by his abrupt, in-your-face guitar playing. Combining his punchy riffs with John Urbanchocks intriguing ones make for an arrangement of tunes that not only please the ear but paint a picture in the mind.
John Urbanchock seems to make his presence known in each song. He takes the core melody and tweaks it to the point that its not only distinct but catchy; His buoyant playing compliments Demaggios already smooth vocals.
The music of Someplace to Crash fills the uncomfortable silences in conversations, and they write the kind of songs where listening is effortless. There is dreaminess to it; its the kind of music a person can go to sleep to. However, there is an aggression that coexists with the atmospheric mood of their songs; but its an aggression that is more reserved than the average rock band. Theres pain in it; but its a pain that has matured, kind of like a fine bottle of wine. That conflict in the music makes it more intense.
Adding to the intensity of their music, bassist Mike Knight plays at a higher volume than most, so that he, like John Urbanchock, stands out in every song. His attention to clarity is apparent, with each individual note being heard separately.
Like Knight, drummer Justin Strong also uses a crisp sound to counter the billowy guitars. Strong can take an otherwise simplistic beat and reinvent it to give it a more charismatic appeal. His tone is one that is smooth and aggressive simultaneously.
The theme of love is ever present in this bands music, with timeless, image-driven lyrics and passionate melodies. Their music takes people places; to the bliss of first love, and to the anguish of heartache. They take a listener through their worst nightmare: the day that the one theyve always loved marries someone else. They take them through hope and regret and back around to bliss again. They do this without mercy. But instead of feeling unnerved by this rollercoaster of emotions, the listener feels relieved; because he or she is comforted in knowing that there is someone out there who has had the same experiences.
And that is probably the best thing about this band; they are relatable to their fans. Theyre closeness is undeniable; they joke, tease, correct, and hug each other in the same set. They make fans feel like they are a part of something intimate. This is because the band addresses basic universal fears and desires, and it reaches them on a very personal level.
Someplace to Crashs music is a constant reminder that love is the most powerful emotion that exists, and that though love may be simple in theory, it is undeniably complex. This music makes a person want to fall in love, and if theyre already in love, it reminds them why.
