About Me

A NIGHT THAT BLURS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN LIVE BANDS, DJs AND PRODUCERS- BEAT-DRIVEN MUSIC WITH BRAINS.
After plying their respective trades in Leeds and nationwide for many years, promoters, musicians and DJs involved with afro-beat, hip-hop, dubstep, funk, electronica and drum ‘n’ bass have come together to create something slightly different. The label behind this idea, Origami Sounds, has recently received praise from places as varied as Steve Lamacq, Fingathing, Foreign Beggars and Mercury Prize-nominated Seb Rochford for their forward-thinking approach. Think musicians improvising with turntablists, live electronics and vocalists all combining to make something fresh; music that gets you thinking, but always keeps your feet moving. No pretension, arrogance or attitude; just positive vibes and good music. Simple.
Expect live improvised beat junkies Paper Tiger (featuring members of local bands East Park Reggae Collective and Gentleman’s Dub Club) to appear regularly alongside resident DJs, as well as extra bass reinforcement and visuals/artwork. The playlist consists of things such as: Skream, Bugz In The Attic, The Neptunes, Kode 9, Madlib, Parliament/Funkadelic, DJ Shadow, Mr Scruff, ZeroDB, Roni Size, Foreign Beggars, Fingathing, Quantic, Zion Train, MIA, Flying Lotus, Prefuse 73, Public Enemy, Noisia, Fela Kuti, Roots Manuva, The Bug, Daft Punk, Mr. Lif, Al Green, Afrika Bambaataa, Prince, Jamie Lidell, MF Doom, High Contrast, Talking Heads, Antibalas…
