Next Tribe

Psychedelic Gypsy Punk

About Me

Born and bred in the basments of Brooklyn in 2000, Next Tribe has been on a far out musical journey ever since. Pushing the envelope night in and night out with one of the most original sounds in the NYC scene. From Flamenco to dance to Rock to rhythmic tribal improvisational psychedelia, clubs and crowds are drawn in by this diverse group.Conceived in the dome of Rob Mastrianni, this ever evolving cast of rhythm junkies has helped push his gypsy world jam rock stylings to infectious levels. With mainstay bassist James Criscitiello helping to steer this wild beast, Next Tribe has won critical acclaim as well. In 2004, Next Tribe won Relix Magazine's Jam Off competition. Voted in the top 5 of over 200 nationwide entries for best new band. Jambase.com, The Village Voice and many other respected musical publications have all jumped on to support this unique hybrid with great reviews. In the past 6 years NT has held residencies at such prestigious clubs as The Knitting Factory, Tobacco Road and The Wetlands Preserve (which they played 12 times in the last 6 months of it's beautiful existence). Regularly appearing in NYC at The Mercury Lounge, South Paw and Galapagos, to name a few. Touring guerilla style from Maine to DC to Ohio, and all stops in between, has helped to spread this sound to those eager for something fresh, something visceral and something uncontrived. They have played with Robert Randolf and the Family Band, New Deal, Lake Trout, Michael Frantis' Spearhead, The Disco Biscuts, to name a select few.Rob has toured with Keith Caputo (of Life of Agony infamy)recording on his first solo record, Died Laughing. He also won the national Jimi Hendrix Guitar competition for the whole of the East Coast. Currently you can see Rob in the NYC subway system as he and KK have been selected to be a part of NYC's prestigious Music Under New York Program. They will be featured in a full length movie about NYC performers coming soon. You can also hear his Flamenco guitar and electric Sitar stylings on the L Word 2005 soundtrack James was signed to an Indie Label in a band called Flood No.9. right out of high school, and has been rocking along ever since. Taking time to do sessions for the irresistibly talented Kierstin Gray . Jake Nissly is the new blood on the scene. He's presently attending Juilliard as a music major and has toured the world. The most versatile, creative and musical drummers NT has worked with.
