The Urge to Jump
In April 2006, a man attempted to jump from the top of the Empire State Building.
At the last minute, security guards physically restrained him and New York City police charged him with first-degree reckless endangerment. A judge later dismissed the charges, noting that the man had taken steps to ensure the safety of others.
The man’s name is Jeb Corliss. His extreme sport of choice is jumping from the world’s tallest structures with a parachute strapped to his back. Prior to his Empire State attempt he had made 3,000 successful jumps, including leaps from the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Eiffel Tower, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
A More Dangerous Leap
As dangerous as Jeb’s extreme sport might sound, it’s not nearly as risky as something we all do when we jump to wrong conclusions about important issues.
The Bible gives us a classic example of such a leap. It happened in about 1400 BC and carries the importance of one of those “first events†that sets a precedent and tone of caution for the days that follow.
The 7-year conquest of Canaan was coming to an end. Soldiers of families that had settled on the east side of the Jordan River had gone home to be reunited with their families (Joshua 22).
Just as peace was coming to Israel, someone in the west heard that east-side families had built a huge altar. Because the law of Moses did not allow unauthorized places of sacrifice, word spread quickly that “the east side†was sliding back into idolatry. Rumors spread and tempers flared about a brash event that seemed to be risking the security of the whole family.
Just a few years earlier, when some of the people of Israel became entangled in the worship of foreign gods, God sent a plague that killed 24,000 (Numbers 25:9). And later, the unfaithful actions of a man by the name of Achan caused God’s anger to fall on the whole nation (Joshua 7).
With such national crises fresh in their minds, the families of the west moved quickly. The record of Joshua tells us, “When the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered together at Shiloh to go to war against them†(Joshua 22:12).
Shiloh means “place of rest.†But those gathered there were ready to wage a civil war to defend their national honor and security.
Words of Wisdom
Before the rush to judgment was complete, however, wisdom prevailed. At Sinai, their ancestors had agreed to a law that told them what to do in just such an occasion. If a community in Israel turned away to worship other gods, they were to “inquire, search out, and ask diligently. And if it is indeed true and certain that such an abomination was committed among you, you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying it, all that is in it and its livestock—with the edge of the sword†(Deuteronomy 13:14-15).
In keeping with these instructions, the people of the west formed a delegation of family leaders to do some fact finding. They asked a man who had earned their respect in an earlier crisis to lead the group (Numbers 25:1-10; Joshua 22:13-14).
Unexpected Answers
When the delegation reached their brothers in the east, they were ready for the worst. They accused the eastern tribes of ignoring the past and endangering the future of the whole nation.
Then came the surprise. After listening to the accusations, spokespersons for the east assured the delegation that they did not intend to sacrifice at this altar. Because the Jordan River divided them from the rest of the family, they built the altar as a national unity memorial (Joshua 22:24-27). They wanted future generations to remember their relationship to the whole nation and God of Israel.
When the investigative council returned home, all Israel celebrated the outcome. The altar was not what they thought it was. It was, in the words of their brothers, “a witness between us that the Lord is God†(v.34).
If the urge to jump to a wrong conclusion had been acted on, many would have died. A family would have gone to war with itself. The Lord’s name would have been dishonored in the region.
Jumping off the Empire State building might seem reckless and dangerous, even with a parachute. But nothing is more dangerous for ourselves and others than jumping too quickly to conclusions that can lead to lost reputations, family division, and even war.
What the children of Israel learned, we must now see for ourselves. There are so many ways to jump to false conclusions. Hearing only one side of a conflict (Proverbs 18:17), assuming guilt by association (Luke 7:34), and repeating harmful unconfirmed information as if it is fact (Joshua 22:11) are only a few of the leaps that harm ourselves and others.
Let’s remind one another that if a rumor is important enough to cause concern, it is important enough to confirm.
Father in heaven, we are so inclined to think the worst about others. We have a history of acting on impulse and partial stories. We want to change for Your sake and for one another. Please help us to learn the ways of wisdom and peace. Help us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. –Mart De Haan
It's not about me or my ego and you or your ego! IT'S ABOUT GOD! If you send me a friend request it has to be understood from the start - I send biblically related comments every day to all of my friends on my list. If you do not wish to post/share these comments with the world please do not send me a friend request. My mission is to spread the gospel of Christ to as many people as I can reach. And I believe the Lord led me to MySpace to reach the largest audience for HIM - not for me.I am not in this to win a popularity contest by adding numbers to a list. Each one of the people on my friend list become someone very special in their own right and we interact through the mutual love of God and our Savior. Thank you for understanding and may your life be abundantly blessed by God.
A word about the power of prayer: In some of my darkest, most painful and frightening hours, I have prayed not for answers to my prayers or for material things but for God to help me find the strength, confidence and courage to persevere; to face each day and to do what I must do.
Remember this: “You are an expression of the Almighty. The Spirit of God resides within you and moves through you. Open your heart, speak to that spirit and it will heal and empower you.â€
My God has never failed me.

If nothing frightening ever happened, how could the assurance of God's constant presence be the quieter of our fears?
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the writer of Psalm 119 said "It is good for me to be afflicted, so that I might learn your decrees. The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold. Your hand made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word." Psalm 119:71-74
I am only begining to understand what he meant, Lord. We never know what You and Your Word mean until we are so afflicted that we cannot live without You. Teach me Your powerful Word, so that meaning can come forth from tragedy.

THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON
Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there…to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be but you lock eyes with them, you know that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.
And sometimes things happen to you that, at the time, may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles you would never realize your potential, strength, will power or heart.
Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of luck or by Karma or "what goes around comes around" theories. Illness, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test limits of your soul.
Without these small tests, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere, safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless.
The people you meet affect your life. The successes and downfalls that you experience can create whom you are, and the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact they are probably the most poignant and important ones. If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them because they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart.
If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but also because they are teaching you to love and open your heart and eyes to little things. Make every day count. Appreciate everything that you possibly can, for you may never experience it again.
Talk to people whom you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high. Hold you head up because you have every right to.
Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you. Create you own life and then go out and live it.
"If you take your eyes off your goals, all you see is obstacles."

Romans 12:9-21
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it1 to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
The pressing issue we have not addressed yet in dealing with Romans 12 is how the call for peace and patience and love and freedom from vengeance relate to those times and places in life when punishment and retribution seem right. Let’s get the big picture in front of us so we can see the question clearly:
Verse 9a: “Let love be genuine.â€
Verse 10a: “Love one another with brotherly affection.â€
Verse 14: “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.â€
Verse 17: “Repay no one evil for evil.â€
Verse 18b: “Live peaceably with all.â€
Verse 19: “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God.â€
Verse 20: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.â€
Verse 21b: “Overcome evil with good.â€
The clear and uniform message here is that we should love our enemies, and that this love involves treating them better than they deserve, not returning evil for evil but blessing them from our heart and helping them when they need us. This teaching is the same as Jesus’ teaching when he said, for example:
(in Luke 6:27-31),
But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either.Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
Two Main Reasons Why We Should Love Our Enemies:
There are two main reasons why Christians should act this way.
1. It reveals something of the way God is. God is merciful. “He makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust†(Matthew 5:45).
2. “He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities†(Psalm 103:10). “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you†(Ephesians 4:32).
So when Christians live this way, we show something of what God is like. Peace lies only in the path of God.
Father in Heaven, Hallowed be your great and glorious name; Your kingdom come, Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven. I thank You, Father, for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you.
I know that every day I fall short of your glory, I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak... Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others.
I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those that don't believe. But I thank you that I believe. I believe that You change people and You change things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met. I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than You. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it.
Father I love you and I need you, come into my heart, please. I thank You for your blessed Son, my Savior; for His pain, suffering and humiliation that He suffered for me to redeem me from my sins. I Thank You for His precious blood that washes me clean and hides my sins everyday. I ask that You help me to always remember His sacrifice, for without it I know there is no hope of my salvation. This and all else I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen (Your will be done)
When Children Learn
When children learn that happiness is not found in what a person has but in who that person is...
When they learn that giving and forgiving are more rewarding than taking and avenging...
When they learn that suffering is not eased by self-pity, but overcome by inner resolve and spiritual strength...
When they learn that they can't control the world around them, that they are the masters of their own soul...
When they learn that relationships will prosper if they value friendship over ego, compromise over pride, and listening over advising...
When they learn not to hate a person whose difference they fear, but to fear that kind of hate...
When they learn that there is pleasure in the power of lifting others up, not in the pseudo power of pushing them down...
When they learn that praise from others is flattering but meaningless if it not matched by self-respect...
When they learn that the value of a life is best measured not by the years spent accumulating possessions, but by the moments spent giving of one's self-sharing wisdom, inspiring hope, wiping tears, and touching hearts...
When they learn that a person's beauty is seen not with eyes but with the heart; and that even though time and hardships may ravage one's outer shell, they can enhance one's character and perspective...
When they learn to withhold judgment of people, knowing everyone is blessed with good and bad qualities, and the emergence of either often depends on the help given or hurt inflicted by others...
When they learn that every person has been given the gift of a unique self, and purpose of life is to share the very best of that gift with the world...
When children learn these ideals and how to practice them in the art of good living, they will no longer be children - they will be blessings to those who know them, and worthy models of the world.
We are all God's children, therefore, we are never too old and we should never stop learning.
When I Think how Jesus died
and for my sins was crucified,
Oh, a love such as this,
I just can't comprehend,
Then I think how He must feel
to have suffered through that ordeal,
When His love has been rejected
by so many through the years,
I wonder if He ever cries,
when He thinks of how He bled and died,
Does the memory remain?
Can He still feel the pain
of sin and shame He bore for me?
And everytime He sees His scars
does it bring a tear into His eyes?
Will many never serve Him
not caring how He loved them?
I wonder does it make Him cry?
When I think about the Blood
that Jesus shed through love,
and all the pain that He suffered
in dying agony,
yet in the midst of all His grief,
He had mercy on one thief,
Who simply ask for mercy
and salvation he recieved.
I wonder if He ever cries,
when He thinks of how He bled and died,
Does the memory remain?
Can He still feel the pain
of sin and shame He bore for me?
And everytime He sees His scars
does it bring a tear into His eyes
not caring how He loved them?
I wonder does it make Him cry ?
It is my hope that all who visit this page will leave with a feeling of comfort and peace after reading the scriptures, poems and blogs that are posted. That you will not see me but will see our glorious Lord and Saviour and all that He can accomplish working through me.
"Do not foresake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you - better a neighbor near by than a brother far away". (Proverbs 27:10) Friendship is important to God, or He would not encourage us to hold fast to it. We are brought into a new family where faith becomes more important than blood. No matter where you go God's children are always there for you.
Loving Each Day
There is another kind of voice you might hear within, and that comes from something I call the "emotional spirit." You might go to a ball game, a pep rally, a political meeting, or a gathering of people all sharing a common emotional experience, and you fall into their point of view. You become caught up in the emotional fervor and know that they are right. Not only that, you know that everyone who does not share that point of view is wrong.
If you move on this emotional response, you may get hurt. Later when you are by yourself and the emotional energy of the group is gone, you may think, "How could I have let that happen? How could I have believed that?" You were caught up in the emotional spirit.

I'm married (seconds for both of us)to a wonderful man. He's taught me patience, understanding, forgiveness. We are going on our 6th year. And it has been a wonderful journey. We've had many up's and down's - mostly because of my insecurities. I've finally found unconditional love through him. What people don't understand about that statement is: A person can have unconditional love from many different areas in their lives. There is the unconditional love of a child, the unconditional love of sisters & brothers, unconditional love of parents, unconditional love of friends. And then there is unconditional love of a spouse or significant other (fiance, boyfriend/girlfriend). I never was fortunate enough to have this kind of unconditional love. Finally, in the later years of my life, God saw fit to send someone into my life who could and does show me that kind of love from a spouse, lover, friend. He knows all my good points and all the bad and loves me in spite of and because of the whole package. Our love is ever changing and yet always new. He never tried to change me and yet he has changed me forever; he see's the good and true in me and fogives all the rest in me.
I am a restored Christian and put God above all else in my life. Without Him in my life I would cease to exist. With Him I can accomplish anything. Being a Christian has taught me that taking care of others is really about taking care of yourself. You're physical well being has to be in line with your spiritual and emotional well being. If you are selfish, you will feel incomplete and lonely; only by giving to others will you really feel good about yourself. I am a work in progress, He continues to heal my soul, my spirit, my body. I learned a long time ago that each of us have the most leathal weapon in the world - Our tongue - and most everyone is savagely brutal when using it. And there are times that the damage is so severe it can never be repaired. But you move on and allow time to heal the pain and forgive though you never forget. What you put into the lives of others comes back into your own.

HE DIED FOR YOU - WHY NOT LIVE FOR HIM??
I may never see tomorrow,
There's no written guarantee.
And things that happened yesterday
Belong to history.
I cannot predict the future,
I cannot change the past,
I have just the present moment,
I must treat it as my last.
I must use the moment wisely,
For it soon will pass away,
And be lost to me forever
As part of yesterday.
I must exercise compassion,
Help the fallen to their feet;
Be a friend to the friendless,
Make an empty life complete.
The unkind things I do today
May never be undone.
Any friendship that I fail to win
May nevermore be won.
I may not have another chance
On bended knee to pray;
And I thank God with humble heart
For giving me the day.

The Wish (To My Darling Husband)
By Gregory Earl Wurst
If I could only have one wish,
One wish that would come true;
Then there would be no thought at all,
I’d wish to be with you.
While some may wish for wealth or fame,
Or hope to be a king.
Without you standing by my side;
It wouldn’t mean a thing.
For wealth could never buy your love,
And fame is often fleeting.
And what good is it to be a king,
If it’s not you I’m greeting?
So if I ever get my wish
And have that choice to make,
I’ll leave the rest to someone else
It’s you that I will take.
Loving Each Day
If you want success in your life, it's time to recognize
that you cannot change the past. This isn't just 20 years
ago; you can't even change what happened 20 seconds ago. You
can't change things so your mother or father would have
loved you the way you may have wanted them to. You can't
change things in the past so you would have expressed love
the way you might have wanted to.
What a waste of time it is to put your energy into something
that is really a bucket of ashes. The past is dead. Why
continue to put energy into a ghost?
The best you can do with the past is to use it as a
reference point, like a scientist does with an experiment.
If you need to look at it, do so with awareness. Without
emotional content, see what happened; see it for
information, not for blame or judgment.
There may also come a time when you have no need even to
look at the past. You can simply let it go immediately, so
you have all your energy present for living in the present.

WHY WOMEN CRY...
A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?"
"Because I'm a woman," she told him.
"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."
Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"
"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.
Finally he put in a call to God. When God answered, he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?"
God said:
"When I made the woman she had to be special."
"I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort."
"I gave her an Inner Strength to endure childbirth, and the rejection, that many times comes from her children."
"I gave her a hardness, that allows her to keep going, when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family, through sickness and fatigue, without complaining."
"I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and All circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly!"
"I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart."
"I gave her Wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve, to stand beside him unfalteringly."
"And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."
"You see my son," said God, "The Beauty of a Woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair."
"The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart ~ the place where Love resides."
TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. 'YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.' Have you loved God above all else? Is God first in your life? Have you loved God with all your heart? Have you loved humanity as much as you love yourself? You be the judge. Will you be innocent or guilty on Judgment Day of breaking that Commandment? I'm not judging you I am asking you to judge yourself before the Day of Judgment. The sentence for breaking this Commandment is death. (I have been guilty of this.)
2. 'YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF ANY GRAVEN IMAGES.' This means that we shouldn't make a god to suit ourselves, either with out hands or our mind. (I have been guilty of this.)
3. 'YOU SHALL NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD YOUR GOD IN VAIN.' Have you ever cussed and used Gods name while cursing? Then you are guilty of taking the Lords name in vain. (I have been guilty of this.)
4. 'REMEMBER THE SABBATH, TO KEEP IT HOLY.' (I have been gulity of this.)
5. 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.' Have you always honored your parents in a way that is pleasing the sight of God? Ask Him to remind you of the sins of your youth. You may have forgotten them, but God hasn't. (I have been guilty of this.)
6. 'YOU SHALL NOT MURDER.' God says, "that if we hate our brother (or sister) then we have already commited murder in our hearts." (I have been guilty of this.)
7. 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.' Jesus said, "that anyone who looks upon someone with lust, has already commited adultery in their heart." (I have been guilty of this.)
8. 'YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.' Have you ever taken something that belonged to someone else (irrespective of its value)? Then you are a thief. (I have been guilty of this.)
9. 'YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS.' Have you ever spread rumors and lies about someone else? Have you ever told a lie? Then you are guilty of bearing false witness and you are a liar. How many lies do you have to tell to be a liar? Just one. The Bible warns that all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire. (I have been guilty of this.)
10. 'YOU SHALL NOT COVET.' This means we shouldn't desire anything that belongs to another person. (I have been guilty of this.)
Who of us can say we are not guilty of breaking these Commandments? All of us have sinned, and just as with the civil law, you don't have to break ten laws to be a lawbreaker, so the Bible warns, 'For whoever shall keep the wole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is is guilty of all.'
The next step is to ask Christ into your heart. In doing this you also have to REPENT. REPENTENCE is turning away from your sin so much so that you hate it. You can not follow Christ and still live in sin it is just impossible. We will sin throughout our lives but the thing is that we must ask Jesus to forgive us.
Many people like myself at one point thought that God is a merciful God and will forgive me no matter what I do as long as I love Him. This is not true. He will forgive us but only if we turn from our sin.
Thank you my dear friend Jackie, for the thought provoking commentary on each of these commandments - I, too, am guilty of each and every one of them.
"Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.." ~John 13:23
"Leaning on Jesus' Bosom"
Oh, to be known as "his beloved"
And for a moment take that place
In the company of angels
Hear his voice and see his face
To be the one who was with Jesus
As he settled down to rest
To be the one who sat beside him,
Lean my head upon his chest
And resting there upon his bosom
Hear his gentle beating heart,
Grasp his words as they are spoken
Feel the comfort they impart
To hear him speak of how he loved them
Knowing soon they all would flee
And speak of comfort and assurance
Aware of his coming agony
To feel the love from him emitting
And see the sorrow in his eyes
Looking on those who would forsake him
Denying his name that very night
And yet to call them "little children"
And say that he'd prepared a place
To witness perfect love in action
And hear the voice of Heaven's grace
To share those precious final moments
Before they carried him away
And hear the beating heart of Jesus
While my head upon his bosom lay

"The Crucifixion"
by Marilyn Ferguson
They placed the cross upon His back
Yet, no one seemed to care
The weight across His shoulders
Seemed more than He could bear.
The spikes were driven in His hands
And pounded through His feet
The ones who had convicted Him
Were cheering in the street.
The crown of thorns placed on His head
Brought blood upon His brow
The day of prophecy had come
He had to face it now.
The sins of man were laid to rest
He bore a heavy loss
The agony He must have felt
As He hung there on the cross.
The innocent blood of Jesus Christ
Was shed for all to see
The Son of God was crucified
And died for you and me.
