Hi, my name is Joris. I'm a saxophone player and a composer. I'm Belgian, but at 18, I had the chance to study in Paris with some great teachers, and played with these incredible musicians. In 2005 I left for New York to study more intensively with Dave Liebman and Seamus Blake. Meeting Lou Donaldson, talking about women with Joel frahm, listening to an Ornette tape with Brian Blade, Sam Yahel and Joshua Redman, 12-tone rowing with Tim Ries, discussing about composing with Wayne Krantz,..All part of my growth and all so inspiring...Came back, finished school and got ready for 'real life' as a jazz artist.
Unfortunately, just after graduating I was diagnosed with this rare form of cancer.
Treatment is quite violent, but so many people, friends, family, ...they just wouldn't give up on me and now, after months of a real 'struggle for life', doctors seem to be more optimistic.
It's been -and it still is- extremely intens, but I guess I had to let go everything, and be free to become who I will be...There's not yet very much horn playing possible for the moment, but I'll get there!
