Ansgar-M. Stein: Didjeridancescapes

About Me

Ansgar-M. Stein discovered the didjeridu in 1993, was taken away by the groovy potential of it and started playing his first concerts with members of his later band PANGAEA in 1994 (resulting in the CD "Virungha" 1998), fusioning rock-, pop- and jazz components. With them he also founded PROJECT PAN (now still existent under the name YIDAKINETIC), being one of the first in Germany to drive didge beats to electronic trance grooves. This continued when he met YOMANO to produce "BigBamBoo", an album of easy-listening electro-trance-pop.
Known for his stylistic versatility, he nowadays also tours with multipercussionist JOSS TURNBULL, weaving experimental and danceable acoustic structures. For that he developed his extraordinary light weight fibre-glass didjeridus - based on the latest scientific findings according the physics of the didjeridu - which enable him to add movements and dance to his shows. The duo STEIN&TURNBULL has featured festivals all over Europe, in England, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Swizzerland, Austria and France since 2003, resulting in the extraordinary CD-Book REGEN ("Rain"), an overall artwork of music, graphics and lyrics.
Ansgar plays and played as guest musician with bands covering all ranges of music: PANAMA RED (psychadelic folk), NOETICS (psychadelic-rock), BLANK (mind-metal), UP-TIGHT (retro-rock), THE VISION (dub-reggae) and has been studio musician for ORINOKO("Mama Konda"). He features as guest Didge-player for Mark Atkins (AUS), Transmongolia (with Hosoo/traditional mongolian music) Toggy Mess (with Mog/Irish Folk)(GB), Andrea Ferroni (I). His playing also adds to the soundtrack of the German independent movie production "HORCH" (2007)
The latest projects include "AARA", a fusion-band of four of Europe’s leading didje-players ALI ANDRESS, ALEX MAYER, ROMAN BUSS and Ansgar, and "ART OF DIDGE 2" with MAD MATT and DAVID LINDNER from the publishing house Traumzeit-Verlag, for whom he also works as designer, editor and scientific counsellor.
He also works with the walk-act group TRAUMTANZTHEATER where he combines his playing, body-painting, acting and dancing talents. With them he won the "1st Prize for the best costume" on the Venice Carneval 2006.
