IT'S TOTALLY HERE!! I'll have paypal and a website set up soon nuff, but for now please just send me a message or leave a comment here to start a conversation about how I can get one into your hands! The party was a blast, big thanks to Lacey Brown and Megasapien for playing at it, it was so incredibly super.
Solo Artist? Band? or Orchestrette?
When Gwen plays solo, it's just "The Luckless Pedestrian" out for a walk.
When there's a band, they all take on that name. And lifestyle.
When there's a mini-rock orchestra playing her original pieces, they go by the "LPO," which stands for "The Luckless Pedestrian Orchestrette."
Simple songs, or orchestral pieces? What to expect when you come to a performance:
What you hear from Gwen when she plays solo (or with a band) will be very different from what you hear from a performance by the orchestrette. When alone, Gwen plays the songs that come from her heart, ear, hands, funny bone, and her experience of life, in general. They are poppy and have a light-hearted air about them, but often the lyrical content is far more complex than it appears on the surface, keeping the songs anything but simplistic.
As a graduate of Seattle Pacific University (2004) with a BA degree in music composition, Gwen's greatest passion is melody. This is evident in both her song-writing and her composing. However, when she sits down with a sheet of staff-paper and a mission to search deeper into her music, this passion expresses itself in different ways. Her song-writing style and popular-music influences clearly play a role in her compositions, however, she likes to think she specializes in applying minimalistic compositional devices into her pieces, which often leave the listener reeling and perpetuating the line and flow of a piece even after the players have stopped playing. Minimalism is more about letting the music compose itself than about tension and release, which makes for a very different kind of melodic and harmonic experience.
Pieces for the LPO and songs for solo-performance alike: when listening to Gwen's music, you are most likely to find yourself surrounded with a good beat, interesting (yet not overly-complicated) meters, unpredictable but strangely comfortable harmonic progressions, and memorable melodies that Gwen hopes will keep you coming back for more.
Why aren't we hearing much from the orchestrette right now?
The LPO is eventually to become the orchestra-in-residence at the Fremont Abbey, where they will hopefully perform Gwen's original pieces on a quarterly basis. Please visit the Fremont Abbey website to learn how you can support the development of this incredible arts center which will be host to other such interesting and cultured events, and which lies just up the hill from the "center of the universe"- Fremont, Seattle. And if you get in early on the action, your voice might help shape the future use(s) of that building!
Stay tuned to the calendar above to find out when you can catch
the LPO or The Luckless Pedestrian, herself, in concert.
