The man that we know as Indiana Jones was born underneath a different name, that being Henry Jones Junior. Born on July 1, 1899, Indy's father (Henry Senior) was a professor of medieval literature. Sometime before Indy's dad went on a worldwide lecture tour in 1908, young Henry Junior decided that his new first name would be Indiana, taken from a beloved dog that he had fond memories of. It was while on his father's lecture tour that the young Indy first got his real taste of global adventure, encountering many different cultures and exotic places with rich ancient histories.
In 1912, Indy and his family had returned to the States when his mother fell ill to scarlet fever, a sickness that eventually would prove to be fatal. Shortly after his mother's death and while on a Boy Scout trip in Utah, Indy tried to prevent the theft of a relic called the Cross of Coronado by a group of adventurers for hire. This encounter proved to leave a lasting impression upon the young Indy as he is given his trademark fedora by the leader of the group, used a whip for the first time (and gained the scar on his chin) and developed his fear of snakes. It also gave him a real taste of the thrill of adventure archaeology, placing your life in danger in the pursuit of priceless artifacts from the past. different cultures and exotic places with rich ancient histories.
In his young adult years Indy enrolled at Princeton University, traveled to Africa and fought in the First World War. After the fighting was over Jones returned to the States and completed his degree in archaeology while brushing briefly up against the lives of other famous people from that era. He later returned to Europe where he met Rene Belloq, another archaeology student and someone that would prove to be one of his greatest adversaries. Indy then decided to return back to his home country and complete his PhD in archeology under the mentorship of Abner Ravenwood. Indy also begins a romance with Abner's young daughter Marion but it ultimately ends badly. different cultures and exotic places with rich ancient histories.
After gaining his PhD, Indy accepts a job teaching at Marshall College in Connecticut. He also moonlights for museum curator Marcus Brody as an adventurer-for-hire, traveling to the far corners of the globe in search of artifacts for private collectors or esteemed institutions. In 1936 he once again meets up with Marion Ravenwood and together the two bring back the lost Ark of the Covenant to America, and in the process defeats his old rival Belloq for good. Two years later Indy, his father and associates Marcus Brody and Sallah discover the whereabouts of the Holy Grail. different cultures and exotic places with rich ancient histories.
