Is the letter “u” jealous of the letter “w”?

About Me

Aden Kent Ramsey was born in Lufkin, Texas on August 12, 1985. He began his musical endeavor at the age of 13 and composed his first piece for piano, "Sweet Beginnings", while taking piano lessons from Mrs. Pam McClendon. Home schooled from preschool through high school, Aden attended Tyler Jr. College, where, in 2006, he received his Associate of Arts in piano performance. While at TJC, Aden composed various piano pieces and two songs for the Theater department’s production of, "The Musical Comedy Murders of the 1940."Aden now attends Stephen F. Austin State University. In the fall of 2006, Aden was one of the few composition students who composed music for the student film, "Within Us", written and directed by Derek Johnson, who also stared as the main character. Aden composed five cues for the student film and served as one of the music editors. In collaboration with the theater department, he composed five songs for the play, "The Piano Lesson", in 2007. Aden also had his piano piece, "Ballade in E Major", performed at the NACUSA conference in San Marcos, TX in March, 2007. Aden plans to receive a Bachelor of Music in composition at Stephen F. Austin State University, in the summer of 2009. Also in 2007, Aden composed music for the student film, “Skipping Tomorrow” written and directed by Rob Senska. In February, Aden won the 2008 NACUSA composition competition with an alto sax/piano piece called, "An Echo’s Inevitability."

My Interests

Music:

Influences: Samuel Barber, Claude Debussy, Gerald Finzi, Copland, J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner,Wanting to become a film composer after College, I’m influenced by John Williams, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Philip Glass, Garry Wickliffe, etc.
Sounds Like: Before I came to Stephen F. Austin State University, the only music that I had composed was either for the piano or for voice. I am partial to the classical/romantic style since everything I have learned from taking piano lessons is from these two time periods. Since coming to the SFASU composition department, I am trying to imitate other styles and broaden my horizons. I’ve completed my first fugue for woodwind quintet, "Der Ricercer der Reue" that imitates the Renaissance/Baroque era. I’ve composed a jazz head tune called, "Eggs Over Easy", and I’ve just recently completed an orchestral piece entitled, "Daniel", that uses many techniques found in film scores.
