About Me

If the musical sounds of Musiq Soulchild, Christina Aguilera and Amy Winehouse had a baby, the result would be the something like the cries coming from Mariel Jacoda. A Chicago native, Mariel spent time at home as well as in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City competing in various singing competitions because she loved the stage. This pint-sized powerhouse practiced getting audiences in the palm of her hands everywhere she went.
After coming from Chicago to the predominantly Caucasian city of Salt Lake, her small package of big soul was well received by those who saw her singing ballads with a performance knowledge far beyond her years. She grew up listening to Whitney Houston, Billy Joel and Michael Jackson, along with the music of her parents' generation, like Diana Ross, Chicago, and Earth, Wind, & Fire. These influences have combined to create the soulful, down-to-earth style you can hear in one of her original tunes, such as "Oh Mother". Her more recent influences (The Transfer, India.Arie, Paramore, Eminem, Taylor Swift) have been more on the lyrical side of the music as Mariel continues to find herself both as an artist and as a person.
At only nineteen, young Mariel made the decision to take her guitar and her notebooks of lyrics out to Hollywood to pursue her career in music. She is currently attending an academy for the performing arts where she actually got her first vocal lesson, and is constantly honing the rest of her skills in hopes to become the best artist possible.
