About Me

I am a Husband and a Father First

I think one of my greatest virtues is my dedication to my family. Kaloeb and Kai are the center points for my universe and an inspiration to us all. There is always hope for a future and they are shining examples of that. My lovely wife Michelle is a wonderful person who's going back to school and learning how to grow beyond herself. This metamorphisis is sometimes painful but a glorious thing to watch and I'm happy to see her blossom.

I Am An Award Winning Writer, Musician and Sailor for The US Navy and Marine Corps.

I wrote a book, Defending Liars , last year that won an EVVY award 2007. I've been sea-service person of the year 2006 while supporting Fox Company 2/24. I had two award winning tours as a recruiter where I was awarded 13 letters of commendation and several navy achievement medals for my efforts. Examiner of the year in 1997 for a Paramedical company I subcontracted for. Awarded a WAMI for my participation in London USA as a keyboardist in 1991. I'm an Eagle Scout.

Other interests include musical production and engineering and graphic design. I have a recording and graphics studio in my basement. I love recording songs. I've played piano and synths since age 8. While people say I'm talented, I just love to play and create. I'm also a a computer geek. Check out my pictures here to see some of my portfolio. If you like it let me know.

Explore My Writing:

I am a regular contributing writer of political science white papers and Op-Ed Pieces at 7.62 MM Justice . Our blog has gotten national attention and recieved a few online awards for its thoughtful layout and insight.

My most recent and award winning work: Defending Liars

Current Projects:

I just helped Milwaukee's own Marine Corps unit deploy and things have quieted down a bit around my workplace given the hectic schedule it took to get them on their way. Since I didn't go with them, I'm open to looking for a new gig and some good times with a band or two locally.

I'm also working on a new book about Iran and making a political and legal case for taking out their nuclear program. This book will articulate many of the points that the President, the US Department of State and others have been saying. Maybe in this next conflict we'll even have the support of the French. After all we are at war right now in Iraq with many elements in that struggle are crossing the border from Iran and killing Americans.

Keyboards, Vocals, Studio Work and More:

I've also been collaborating with Jake Hausman and Michael Rossa on an original pop rock project of my own music. The band is called Ohm's Law and the CD is called: The Private Sessions of Howard Salter. Jake and Mike play guest guitar on many of the tracks while I've tracked the drums, bass and keyboards as well as the lead vocals. It'll soon be marketed on iTunes, emusic and a few other online sources as I've recently recieved a contract to distrbute my songs. It should be a double length CD and is in the post-production phase of production. Thanks for checking out the link and please let me know what you think.

Also, I'm doing all the music for a local singer, Sara White. She's a fabulous jazz singer and we'll have a product out in the near future, also distributed through itunes and emusic.

I'm playing a few shows as a guest keyboardist with Milwaukee's very own The Now . They're gracious enough to have me jam a few shows with them. We played a high energy show at St. Francis days where the ladies were dancing and shaking their booty! It looks like I'll play a few more times with them at the end of September and early October. Thanks and come out and see them play some more.

I've also begun some collaboration with a new band called Ivory Forrest . I'd like to see where this goes. They have some original material and want to do this battle of the bands thing.

I've recently been scouting a local cover band called, Boo The Band . Seems they have a pretty steady and local gig schedule and something along their style definately to my taste. I'll play a few songs with them and it looks like they're welcoming me into the fold. Lots of practice ahead. We'll see how that pans out in the future and I'm embracing some of that challenge with excitment. For those of you who love to watch me play, come check me out then when I'm jamming with them and Miller Park and Moe's Irish Pub.

My Interests

Family Values:

Ask anyone about Howard Salter and they'll tell you about my wonderful family. While we're not perfect and we have our ups and downs, my wife and sons are the reason why this is all worth it. I live a great life in America with all the trimmings and fixings. I have healthy sons and a lovely bride. We've been together since 1997 and have a great investment in our happiness and our futures.

Music:

I have alot of musical interests both as a composer and performer and someone who just likes to listen to music. Recently, I've subscribed to emusic where for $29 a month I can get 75 songs to download to my ipod. This rocks really!

I've been head-banging on female gothic-metal with a orchestral feel to it. Nightwish, After Forever, Epica, Tacere, Hyrogyn are just a few I've been loving! Check em' out if you've not heard them. They're really good.

On the lighter side, I listen to a lot of Trance music and I've been groovin' to the female vocals of 4 Strings, Ocean Lab, Conjure One, DJ Armin Van Burren, Balligomingo, and POE.

Political Science:

I believe that democracy in America is one of the coolest processes in the world. I can practice my political arts with out fear of being thrown in jail. I've seen much of the rest of the world and compared to America, we definately have a set of values that are different than any place else. Freedom and choice are powerful pieces of our identity.

If I were to describe myself politically, I am a libertarian. I'm big into the 10th Ammendment with States Rights and all that jazz. I believe in less government and not more. I believe that we need to protect our economic interests around the world. I often vote Republican. I believe we should finish our business in Iraq and come home but not before we win. I believe my taxes in Wisconsin are too high and that this is an economic hell for business. I'm pro-life.

Graphics:

I love to create. I believe that altruism and creativity are two of the greatest things about this life. When I'm not making music I like to work ..s that are asthetically pleasing to the eye. I have a corporate eye and have done work for a lot of local bands. I've uploaded some graphic design work into a portfolio under my pictures. Please check them out.

I'd like to meet:

There are few people I would like to meet in the world but if fate happened to go my way I gues I'd like to meet some interesting folks.

Musically: I've always wanted to collaborate with Desmond Child on a song as well as Diane Warren. Richard Marx has a great set of ears and song writing talents with projects like Poco and Vixen where-- I would welcome the chance to record a song with him.

Politically: I'd love to meet some people atop their game in political commentary. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannidy are two individuals that are omnipresent in the alternate media and people I admire for making their niche in American iconiculture. I helped Pat Buchannon in his 1996 bid for President here in Milwaukee.

An Interesting Story: When I was 17 and playing in London USA for a very short time, I met Mick Jagger. We were playing the badger bowl in Madison, WI during some August 1991 show. Ironically, I hadn't heard much about the Rolling Stones but at 17, when you know everything (sarcasm), I was into everything that was hip and trendy at the time. The music that we were doing was electronic and pop fluff from the UK mostly. When I met Mr. Jagger, I told him that my father listened to him and that I thought he had retired or something. I was rather rude and tasteless. Our singer took me aside and asked me if I wanted his autograph! I laughed! As I look back now with that brush with famousness, I wonder why I was so rude and a punk. His musical career is mostly 2nd to none in the world with the exception of maybe some of the Beetles.

Music:

Dream Theater, Evanescence, Epica, Ever After, Bon Jovi, Richard Marx, Journey, Styx,

Movies:

What Dreams May Come, Saving Private Ryan, Life is a House, Vanilla Sky, Premonition

Television:

I don't watch T.V.

Books:

I just finished reading Victor Frankl's Man's Search For Meaning, Gary Chapman's: The Five Languages of Love, and His Needs, Her Needs by Willard F. Harley Jr. I also read this last month, Richard Clarke's Against All Enemies, and Fiasco by Thomas E. Ricks. If you're reading this you should check out my book, Defending Liars: In Defense of President Bush and the War On Terror in Iraq.
