JASON WECKERLE- Acoustic/Electric Guitars/ Vocals/Keyboards..............
I started playing guitar 15 years ago at the age of 7 when I first seen the concert video Pink Floyd Pulse. David Gilmour was the first guitarist to strike a true chord with me and get me off to a start and in a direction outside of the normal musical exploration most people take today. And Gilmour still is the God of all guitarists in my opinion, he shows that you don't need to shred to be a kickass guitarist because without emotion music is dead sound. One well played note means more then a 100 arpeggios sweeped up and down the neck. So even at the age of 7 Progressive Rock struck me in a way that no other music has ever been able to. As the years went on I was self taught by playing by ear to bands like Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Rush, Deep Purple,Rainbow, and Led Zeppelin. Then as I grew older Heavy Metal came into my life in a major way around the age of 12 with Black Sabbath, Tool, Metallica, Pantera, and Slayer so my sound took on a heavier sound. Around the age of 14 I started melting my knowledge and playing on acoustic guitar, my progressive rock influences, and my new tastes in Heavy Metal together and thought I had something fresh and new and revolutionary. But I was wrong, a Swedish band by the name of Opeth came into my life and influenced me in ways only Pink Floyd was able to and my love for progressive rock deepened, and my love for a more extreme style of music was born called Death Metal. Now I am inspired by progressive bands like Dream Theater, Green Carnation, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Camel, King Crimson,Symphony X, Yes, Paatos, early Genesis, and many more bands that are listed as influences. And now Death/Black Metal bands like Opeth, Death, Emperor, Decapitated,Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar, In Flames, and many more quech my thirst for the metal genre as well as many more. Then I got into keyboards a little bit because of my father Mark Weckerle (RIP) who was a great keyboardist when he was still around. He taught me a few chords here and there and now I try to make do with my knowledge ..boards. My major inspirations on the keyboards are Rick Wakeman, Richard Wright, Steven Wilson, and Jordan Rudess. I now strive to write original music while still paying respect to those bands who I grew up being inspired from and I try to write music outside of the normal spectrum so when people hear Ivory Forest they can respect us for our creativity, sound, emotion, and style and hopefully be inspired or get a good feeling from the music. Whether we are called a metal band or just a prog rock band we will always be a progressive band and a progressive thinking band. We may write some albums heavier or mellower then others but anyone who listens to this band has to have a love for mellow and heavy music or else they will never get what we are about. I dont write to impress anyone, I write what impresses me musically and if I dont get a feeling from the music when I record it, none of you will hear it. If it sounds good to your ears then I am honored that I struck a chord with you but once you start writing music to impress everyone but yourself it is no longer a artform of expression and creativity, it is a marketing gimic. My creativity shows no signs of slowing down..........
