If you need to learn...

"How to Survive the Overly Aggressive, Mat Bully That Trains in Every Training Academy in the World - Stalking, Attacking, and Eventually Hurting the Older (Over 35 Years Old) and Non-Traditional Grappler and Martial Artist!"

Then you've come to the right place!

Welcome to Paul Greenhill's (aka The Wise Grappler) MySpace Page . This site (and the concept behind The Wise Grappler) is a result of a very well-planned accident. For years, Paul's been quietly flying under the "grappling radar" while developing his personal grappling and mental mindset system for non-traditional grapplers (age 35 and older, female, recreational, non-competitive, physically impaired) under the tutelage of his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor and mentor, Lloyd Irvin. As Paul began to share his system with his Team Lloyd Irvin Teammates and select coaching students, word began to spread about his knowledge and expertise, slowly eliminating the description given to him by BJJ/Submission Grappling Champion Ryan Hall as "Team Lloyd Irvin's Best Kept Secret!"

After strong encouragement from his instructor and teammates, Paul decided to create "The Wise Grappler" as a vehicle to deliver his grappling and mental coaching philosophies. Since launching The Wise Grappler System and Products in January 2007, Paul's grappling philosophies and systems have been enthusiastically received by the grappling community with literally THOUSANDS of martial artists subscribing and reading his weekly training tips and his featured articles world-wide.

Speaking from his own personal experiences, Paul KNOWS what it's like to: Train with the wrong mental mindset that guaratnees failure and defeat Allow his mental mindset to make him train and act like a "mat wimp" (before, during, and after training!) Be targeted in class by a "mat bully" that wants to beat up somebody and you're the "prey" Have mat bullies think that you joined the class to be a moving grappling dummy Get hurt because some mat bully didn't release the hold even after you tapped repeatedly Go home night after night, all beaten and bruised up while thinking about quitting Have the former D-1 wrestler spike you into the mat with the perfect takedown while "training light" Have mat bullies challenge you on the mat after each belt promotion...even at black belt Be injured and have friends and family members tell you that you're crazy for trying to relive your youth.

And it's those same experiences (and many more) that Paul hopes to share with the older and non-traditional grapplers (which he affectionately refers to as "OGs") to show them that they DON'T have to pay to be abused by teammates and instructors night-after-night while training, but that there's a "proven system" to instruct and guide them on how to both survive and thrive in those tough training environments.

So, if you're the type of OG that thinks being treated like the school's grappling dummy is the way it's "supposed to be" because you're too old or weak to do anything about it, then do yourself a favor and, PLEASE don't sign-up to receive this FREE Report and weekly ezine...I CAN'T HELP YOU!

But if you ARE the kind of OG that's tired of being abused and having your butt kicked by every mat bully and overly aggressive punk (young AND old) that can't wait for you to get on the mat each night, this ezine was made ESPECIALLY FOR YOU!!!
And if you don't believe me, check out what others are saying about The Wise Grappler...

"Paul has helped me to change my thinking patterns from an 'I’m too old for this abuse' to 'I can do this…there’s no reason I should fail!' "
"Many things make me a 'non traditional grappler'; my age (34), my gender (female) and my size (5’4” and 105 lbs). Although I have a great instructor who works with each student and never favors one over another, I find myself faced with certain challenges. Since subscribing to “OG Nation”, I have found that many of these issues are addressed with valuable information that I can put to use while on the mat (as well as off the mat). The most valuable to me personally, have been geared toward my view of myself as a grappler, and that of my teammates. Paul has helped me to change my thinking patterns from an 'I’m too old for this abuse' to 'I can do this…there’s no reason I should fail!'" Through his patience and experience, Paul has come to understand certain mind-sets of young, overly ambitious “bullies” as well as those of the older, smaller, or more cautious grappler. Through this series (geared toward the latter of the two) Paul shows how, with patience, persistence and skill, the two may come to the mat with different attitudes, but leave with camaraderie and respect."

"I'm known for alot of things, but one thing I'm not known for is giving out BJJ Rank easily. Paul Greenhill, at the age of 42 years old, went through the school of hard knocks and got valuable lessons that you can't pay for."

"One thing is for certain,if someone follows the blueprint as you are laying down not only will they sidestep all the potholes I have hit but they will improve at an amazing pace!"
"Let me start by saying that the emails have definitely forced me to take a look at myself in a new light. As you know, I have been involved with sports since I was a child. I have been a boxing coach for about 10 years now. I have gone through a lot of the feelings that you described, suffered from unrealistic expectations, pride and ego. I have also looked for validation from my instructor to make me feel as if I was actually progressing. That mentality has kept me from training to my potential and after spending time reading your emails, I realized how hypocritical I have been with regards to my training. I always tell my athletes you have to do the following to get good yet I don't practice what I preach. I have taken the time to evaluate myself and realized that the struggles you describe I have been through but I blamed it on my age, etc. Your emails were eye openers because they helped me realize that what I preach about training and age differences applies to me. I am an OG (Older Grappler), and realizing that made me realize that I do have to do several things in order to improve. One thing is for certain, if someone follows the blueprint as you are laying down not only will they sidestep all the potholes I have hit but they will improve at an amazing pace!" -- Tom Zurita, Professional Boxing Coach

"Paul Greenhill is Team Lloyd Irvin's best kept secret!"
"Paul Greenhill is Team Lloyd Irvin's best kept secret! I have personally benefited a TON from his technical help, as well as his mindset for training and competing. Anytime I'm having trouble, I go find "MP" for help--he hasn't let me down yet. Naturally, there's still plenty of time for me to be massively disappointed, but at the time of this post, I have yet to have that occur. Check out the page and take a look at what he has to offer. You have literally NOTHING to lose, balanced against a whole lot that you stand to gain. Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me."

"It’s not often that an instructor is willing to share his "up's and down's" on his journey to becoming an expert in BJJ. "
"Paul, I just wanted to send you a quick note to say thanks for your words of wisdom. I just wanted you to know that your words are not falling on "deaf ears" and I am sure there are many of us that are really learning and enjoying your tips. Keep up the good work!"

"Although a younger grappler, I'm finding your tips extremely helpful in improving my game because they do apply across the board."
"My name's Mantra and I'm a young grappler, twenty-three years of age who began BJJ just three months ago in January here in Brisbane, Australia. Although a younger grappler, I'm finding your tips extremely helpful in improving my game because they do apply across the board. Through applying your advise, I will be rolling the rest of my life with little or no injury, but most importantly, I will be able to make others aware of the RIGHT ATTITUDE to grappling that you are giving us. It's not about becoming the best at the expense of others, it's about becoming great while everyone else is becoming great along with you. I'll be grabbing my club buddie's email addresses to subscribe them up because I'm finding your tips extremely helpful in improving my game and I especially want to make Older Grapplers I know aware of the wise content you are passing onto us. Since reading your emails and ezines, I have formed principles to grapple by, which have accelerated my progress and allow me to contribute to a better learning environment for others. Thanks again, Paul and keep writing your wisdom!"

"After a few months, things started to turn around for me on the mat. My BJJ game dramatically improved and I was even promoted by Master Lloyd Irvin. Paul's "Wise Grappler System" works!"
"I started training with Team Lloyd Irvin in mid-2004. I was over 30, out of shape, had surgery on one of my knees, and had no grappling or wrestling experience. As a result of previous injuries, I also had developed arthritis in one of my knees and one of my wrists. Most of the other white belts were in their 20s and had high school and collegiate wrestling experience. They were giving me hell on the mats. One day after a BJJ fundamentals class, Paul pulled me aside and told me that when he started training, he had the same kind of problems that I was having. After that day, Paul would work with me after classes. He even would allow me to train with him on days when the academy was closed. I didn't realize it at the time, but Paul was slowly teaching me pieces of his Wise Grappler System. I started incorporating what he taught me, and I continued improving. After a few months, things started to turn around for me on the mat. My BJJ game dramatically improved and I was even promoted by Master Lloyd Irvin. Paul's "Wise Grappler System" works!"

-- Marc Homer, Computer Security Professional

"These teachings applied to me in every area and I can see how it can apply to anyone!"
"I am a 46 year old OG and I train at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy. I have learned first hand from the Wise Grappler because he is one of my instructors. Paul immediately made me feel comfortable in a young punk sport. I am confident in my progress and know how to spot the young punks a mile away. These teachings applied to me in every area and I can see how it can apply to anyone! It's up to you to train smarter or learn the hard way, because “the punks” are waiting for you!"

"The Wise Grappler is the real deal and I have found the advice to be invaluable. Every aspect of the mental side of the BJJ game, ranging from personal insecurities to honest to goodness fear, is discussed honestly and directly. Absolutely no one else covers the inner psyche of the (young) and old BJJ enthusiasts like the Wise Grappler! Now armed with the practical advice of the Wise Grappler, my game is improving every time I take the mat. I'm proud to consider myself a member of the OG Nation and I definitely don't sweat rolling with the young guns anymore."

"Paul's tips, including the amazing talk to yourself while grappling to force yourself to breathe, have given me a blueprint and program to improve my game.!"
"My name is David and I am a 38 year old grappler out here on the west coast. I emailed Lloyd Irvin asking realistically can a 38 year old, non-athletic person who has never won at any sport attain the BJJ Black Belt or, better yet, be a grappling champion. To my surprise, Lloyd emailed me back, told me yes but that it would take some dedication, and turned me on to Paul Greenhill. Paul began to provide me with not only inspiration but with a step-by-step plan and program for me to make improvements in grappling and keep my day job. LOL! Paul's tips, including the amazing talk to yourself while grappling to force yourself to breathe, have given me a blueprint and program to improve my game. If you are an OG, have a job, or can only train part-time, I suggest that you get on Paul's email list and began implementing the tips right away!"

-- David Muhammad (38), BJJ "hacker"
