I am here for Networking

About Me

I'm a book dealer specializing in mysteries and modern first editions. I've always been around books - in publishing, in my own bookshop in the 90s and currently part-time at The Mysterious Bookshop in Tribeca where I work with my friend and mentor Otto Penzler. I have a website: www.owenbookseller.com on which I list collectible books and publish a monthly newsletter, Bookaholic.

My Interests

Good food, good wine, good conversation. Preferably all at the same time. Travel. And, of course, a good book.

I'd like to meet:

Richard III and ask him if he murdered those princes in the Tower. But barring that, readers, collectors, writers, and publishers.

Music:

Classic Rock! Plus Clannad, Dead Can Dance, Leonard Cohen, Kate Bush, Jane Siberry,Joan Armatrading, Ennio Morricone.

Movies:

From The Seventh Seal to The Princess Bride, I love movies. Pretty uncritical. Tell me why you love a movie and I'll probably check it out.

Television:

Clatterford, Weeds, Prime Suspect, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Dexter, Battlestar Galactica, Slings & Arrows, Yankee Baseball.

Books:

Mysteries of course. If I had to pick out two authors? James Lee Burke and Bill James. Non-mysteries: Sinclair Lewis because he helped me understand America; Cormac McCarthy, Alice Hoffman, Helen Humphreys, Toni Morrison.

Heroes:

Andrea Dworkin, Billie Jean King, Audre Lorde, Grete Waitz.

REVIEW of 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill

This terrific collection was originally published in 2005 and is being reissued because, I assume, of the success of HEART-SHAPED BOX, a novel which I found to be rather underwhelming.  Short sto...
