About Me

I'm a guitarist and composer who recently moved from Cleveland, OH, where I taught music for six years, to Detroit, MI. Over the course of the past decade I've had the tremendous pleasure of performing with jazz bassist Ray Brown, Shahida Nurullah (voice), Carman Castaldi (Drums), Randy Johnston (Guitar), Joe Cully (Tabla), Kip Reid (El. Bass), Gary April (Bass), and Joe Deninzon (El. Violin). I've been a member of several groups that include The Lost State of Franklin (Original Country), Beautiful Loser (Avant-pop), Kevin McCarthy (Singer/Songwriter), Tone and Niche (Rock/Pop), The Paul Stranahan Trio (feat. Jeremy Bleich)(Metal/Jazz), and The Afrodesiatics (Funk/Latin). Although I still perform and am constantly improving myself and looking for new work, I am also pursuing a degree in Clinical Psychology which keeps me from running wild. My rock band "Chris Callan" is taking a break right now to write new material but you should look forward to us playing some shows this fall.If you get a chance check out my blog at: http://chriscallan.blogspot.com/ for updates on what I'm currently working on or thinking about.

My Interests

Outside of music I like to read as much as I can and write. I'm interested in and am studying cognitive therapy, child development and learning, as well as couples therapy. I'm learning how to brew my own beer and wine and am learning the details of making fine chocolates. I practice yoga and am taking feldenkrais sessions to improve my body movement and awareness.
