Growing up in Sydney, Australia in a household of musicians, Leon Zervos was exposed to every conceivable style of music. At the age of eight he began sitting in on drums in his father's nightclub and on weekends musicians would drop by the house for jam sessions. Perhaps that explains why he has gone on to become one of the world's most versatile mastering engineers. From Aerosmith to the Wu Tang Clan, Maroon 5 to Tito Puente, Leon is equally at home. Leon began his career in 1982 at the prestigious EMI Studios Sydney. By the late 1980s he had established himself as the top engineer in Australia, mastering worldwide hits for artists such as INXS, Crowded House and Midnight Oil. In 1993, restless for a new challenge, Leon moved to New York, where in a few short years he established himself with a string of hits, including NSYNC's NSYNC, Aerosmith's Nine Lives, Mobb Deep's The Infamous, and Macarena. In 2003 Leon moved to Sterling Sound, where his new, state-of-the-art stereo/surround mastering room won the 2004 Tech Award for studio design. Since joining Sterling, Leon has mastered projects for Avril Levigne, Gavin DeGraw, Duran Duran, Ben Folds and Citizen Cope. Leon lives in Manhattan with his wife Melissa (a recording engineer) and their young daughter.
