ARTIST GARRY GRANT
A master of the of abstract form, Artist Garry Grant combines natural talent with a traditional technique rarely devised by the new generation of artists. A Master gold leaf gilder, Garry Grant stimulates the art lover with the use of this rare method of abstract expression produced by few other artists. The result is a sensual, yet traditional abstract work of art.Self taught from a young age, Garry Grant was first influenced by the drawings of his father and brother. However, the true artist blossomed thirteen years ago as a student in Atlanta. At this time, he would discover and become fascinated by the centuries old techniques and traditions of gold leaf gilding and its applications for frames and glass. After ten years of perfecting the technique of gold leaf artistry, specializing in custom frames and meticulous restoration, he developed the skills to master this old technique.
Garry Grant’s paintings are a distinct expression of the abstract form, articulated with deep colors and intriguing shapes, and finally accented with gold leaf materials. Each piece is composed on materials ranging from canvas to glass, and most impressively—wood. Using hand made gesso and clay for paint and building thick textured surfaces, he layers the gold leaf applications one thin piece at a time over the medium of his choice, producing an incredibly detailed painting. He individually crafts each painting, mindful that each piece will never duplicate another, emerging the true beauty of the gold leaf art form. Currently Garry Grant’s masterful gold leaf collections are showcased in the Atlanta area and across the Southeastern United States.
