I keep anywhere from 3 to 7 books open lying face down bending the spine in half. Currently reading(meaning these are the ones in reach of my cigarettes, i have more in the bathroom) de profundis by oscar wilde and living my life by emma goldman and I just read God Bless you Mr Rosewatert by Kurt(probally for the fifth time.) Just started the alvin maker series by Orson card, do yourself a favor and avoid this like a plague. finished palm sunday by vonnegut, i liked skinny legs and all by tom robbins, dune series, adam's hitchhiker's guide, american gods, thought control in democratic societies, people's history of the united states. science fiction may be the trash bin of literature that critics like to piss in like kurt vonnegut wrote once(bluebeard, slaughter house 5, breakfast of champions, cat's cradle among my favorite) but anyone what likes sci fi and social commentary should read orson scott card's ender's game, speaker for the dead, and xenocide for some right wing(funny critisism here, http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/5/28/22428/7034 ) sci fi and for some leftist scifi read ursula k. leguin's dispossesed and left hand of darkness. steinbeck's grapes of wrath and east of eden should be on everyones list. aldous huxley's ape and essence along with brave new world. george orwell's 1984(which i think is a good companion novel to the ideas in chomsky's necessary illusions about how the lack of information(in orwell's book, the lack of language) limits our ability to think freely. dylan thomas's doctor and the devils(never got into his poetry but this book is good) and i keep a copy of the communist manifesto by marx right next to emma goldman's anarchism and other essays just to give the cops something to fret about when the break into my house. I just noticed i didn't have american gods by neil gaimen in here. Everyone should read the Boondocks by aaron macgruder, and another comic by Dave Sim called Cerebus the Aardvark. finished Johnny got his gun by dalton trumbo just past midnight on 7-4, another great novel.
You're Mother Night!
by Kurt Vonnegut
Nobody knows what to believe about you, and you know least of all. You
spent most of your time convinced that the ends justify the means, but your means were,
well, downright mean! And the end is nigh. Meanwhile all you want is to travel back in
time, if not to change, then to just delight in the way it used to be. You are who you
pretend to be. Oh yes, you're the great pretender.
