Our mission, at the Faculty of Hiphop, is primarily to educate the public - especially those interested in the art form of hiphop - on the basics and fundamental principles of hiphop culture. We intend to put energy into informing the hiphop-consumer about not only what his/her choices are with regard to the hiphop available as entertainment, but also about the "bigger picture" of hiphop culture that encompasses hiphop music as well as the other forms of hiphop art.Through the archive on this site, as well as discussions held on the Ghetto Pimp Show on UCT Radio (Mondays, 7-9pm), the Faculty of Hiphop hopes to educate all those who are interested... i.e. introduce those who have been blinded by the music industry to hiphop consciousness, and facilitate the further education of those who already understand the concept of consciousness, but want to gain a thorough understanding of the hiphop culture as a whole. It is essential that everyone has the understanding of hiphop culture embedded in their minds, so that when an imposter steps into the place of hiphop MC and claims to be something of hiphop, nobody falls for his lies. The Faculty, through education, aims to eliminate the problem of fake MC's claiming what is not owned, but exists as a universal culture. With his mouth, the godless destroys his neighbour, but through knowledge the righteous escape. The Faculty of Hiphop also aims to promote conscious hiphop artists and to entertain those who appreciate hiphop music. This is by means of the Ghetto Bootleg Series, released without the involvement of any organisation with profit as a motive, bypassing the music industry as a whole.Put your thoughts into action:
Stop Exploitation of Hip-hopToo many people blaspheme the culture of hip-hop and we - as the hiphop community should not get angry - as some do - when the term "real hip-hop" is used to differentiate hiphop music in it's true sense (having origins in hiphop culture) from "hiphop" that is simply rap music. Just because you are expressing yourself on a beat, doesn't mean that you are doing hiphop.Be careful, when supporting a hiphop related cause, to not support something that is simply a popular conception of what is real... anybody can claim to be real, but an understanding of what is real and what is not will prevent a person from being fooled.
