About Me

About the Author:
Denise was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised on the fringes of the French Quarter on North Rampart Street for the first few years of her life. She lived all over the southern part of Louisiana, New Orleans, Destrehan, Chalmette (Yes, she was a chalmation!), and Slidell. As well she lived in Picayune, Mississippi, a half-breed- half coonass and half redneck! (Forgive the punt) Nevertheless, now her home is in Pearlington, Mississippi, in which she regards as Home Sweet Home!
Denise will never bury the memories from where she have came from, her roots, her heritage and will always recall New Orleans as it use to be when she was a child growing up, simply beautiful. Remembering friday nights on Music Street as she and her grandparents would entertain relatives by playing the piano, singing and talking about the good ol' days enlaced with good food and cold duck, taking a sip from her maw-maw's glass when she was not looking and how she will always hold the memories of the Claiborne Aveune bridge over lingering Japonica Street, her grandparents lil' shotgun house right across the street from the SPCA where she would go and visit the stray dogs and cats, wanting to adopt each and every one of them.
Denise will always hold close to her heart the picturesque Destrehan Plantation that graces River Road with all its grandure and magnificent beauty, recalling the first day she ever laid eyes on the glorious plantation in which she held her breath and now can recall the history that lived within it's walls over the many, many years, which to her are simply pleasing to the soul. She will keep alive within her thoughts all the cajun coonasses in Chalmette, P.G.T. Beauregard High School and the rumors of Bloody Mary down the road in Poydras, and will always think of those special to her in Picayune, two souls that are always within her thoughts, but how she had grown to love her home of the past thirteen years and all of her family and friends in Pearlington, Mississippi.
Denise is a stay at home mother with two beautiful children, Brittany Michelle and Dalton Hunter. Also she has two outstanding kids, grown that live in Picayune, Cody Aaron and Ashley Marie. By marriage, to Michael Lawernce, her soul-mate, she has a howling stepson, Derek Michael. She enjoys cooking, most famous for her Creole gumbo and loves working out in the yard. Denise and her family are rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina just as everyone on the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast and in her spare time she relishes in writing. Her one true desire in life that keeps her grounded when she finds herself somewhere on the edge about to jump!
Denise has always found the myths and legends of vampires, ghost and past spirits to be enchanting, proud at the fact a part of her heritage consist of these things along with voodoo queens and infamous pirates, that she can only be so humble to write about. As a child and even now, Denise is always in love with the thoughts and envisions of the sultry plantation days, the romantic gesture, seeing herself within her past life living among those days, also envisioning herself gracing the narrow streets of the Vieux Carre of yesterday if only in her colorful imagination.
Denise will always be thankful that the founder of La Nouvelle d' Orleans, Jean Baptiste le Moyne Sieur de Bienville and his men cleared away the first thick canebrakes on the mighty Mississippi River, also thankful for Andrew Jackson defeting the enemy in the Battle of New Orleans, proud of the St. Louis Cathedral that graces Jackson Square, wishing she could of bowed down before the Baroness Micaela de Pontalba and forever respectful of the above ground tombs of the St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, remembering the three red xxx she engraved on the tomb of Marie Laveau, that will forever be the Queen of Voodoo in Naw'lins.

My Interests

Of course writing, that goes without saying, but also one of her favorite pass times is to karaoke. Denise says she can't carry a tune in a bucket! However, she likes seeing them all at the Turtle Landing holding their ears!

I'd like to meet:

Denise knows it sounds too self-evident, but she would like to meet Anne Rice, her favorite and most respected author in the world. She loves her work and can only wish one day to become the exceptional writer that Anne Rice truly is. Thus just one of her aspirations in writing her new book.

Denise would also like to one day when her time comes meet back with all her loved ones that have departed to heaven. Her grandparents and her parents. May they all rest in peace!

Music:

Denise loves country music, old and new. When she was a kid growing up it sent chills going up and down her back..but she has adapted through the years. She will always love her 80's big hair heavy metal rock bands, Motley Crue, Poison, White Snake, etc, etc..but since she's grown older, matured she has fallen in love with Jazz and Cajun music...not realizing just how amazing it sounds and the roots, the hertiage instilled within the music and lyrics.

Movies:

Denise is a sucker for a good love story, "I love girlie movies too and anything that takes the edge off and makes me laugh but then again I love getting the hell scared out of me too," she says. Her favorites of course, Interview with a Vampire, Steal Magnolia's and an all time favorite, Gone with the Wind.

Television:

Books:

Dan Brown- The DaVinci Code, William Faulkner-Soldier's Pay, Of course without saying anything Anne Rice but her favorite, New Tales of the Vampires, Tennesse Williams-The Glass Menagerie and of course her own book, Isabella St. Clair: Vamp of New Orleans, the Vieux Carre

Heroes:

Denise's youngest son, Dalton is her hero. He has a soft and gentle heart that reminds her of her mama, but also she would have to say now since she is raising children of her own and see how they can test her patience, she would have to say her grandparents, Art, Faye, Geneieve, Percy and her mama and daddy, Kathrine and Glen for ever putting up with her in her rebellion years.
