Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in 1967 and still active in 2007. The group is probably best known for three songs: The 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune (featured in the movie Halloween, and in the TV movie The Stand based on Stephen King's novel of the same name); the 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin and "Godzilla" (1977) from Spectres. The song "Veteran of the Psychic Wars," with lyrics penned by Michael Moorcock, appeared in the soundtrack of the movie Heavy Metal and "Astronomy" (1974) from Secret Treaties was covered by Metallica on 1998's Garage Inc..
Blue Öyster Cult has sold over 14 million albums worldwide, and was awarded nine gold albums, and two platinum albums. Live staples from the band's vast catalog include "Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll," from the debut album (1972) and "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)," also from Agents of Fortune. Other singles, many of which the band still plays live, include "Dr. Music," "In Thee," (both from 1979's Mirrors), "Take Me Away," "Shooting Shark" (both from 1983's The Revölution by Night.
The Blue Öyster Cult catalog continues to thrive as we enter the 21st century. Many of the early BÖC songs have been repackaged in recent compilations on Sony/Legend records like Workshop of Telescopes and The Best of Blue Öyster Cult. Columbia Legacy reissued BÖC's first four releases with a newly remastered sound and added rare bonus tracks taken from demos and outtakes.
Since the arrival of the Internet, BÖC fans from around the world have been more active than ever, and are more determined then ever to get these legends inducted into the Rock hall of fame!
