Leandro Saint-Hill BIOGRAPHY.Saint-Hill was born in Camagüey, Cuba on November 12-1968. He began violin lessons with his father at age 7; but the sound that really touched his soul was the saxophone. At eleven years old he started studying saxophone with eminent saxophone instructor Mario Lombida. Leandro..s most profound early influences were Charanga & Danzon orchestra, Paquito D.. Rivera and Charlie Parker. It was Parker..s music, which gave him the motivation to develop jazz improvisation. After graduating from the José White music school, he began teaching in the music conservatory in las Tunas. Leandro later moved to Havana where he worked as a sideman with rock- star Tanja, Beatriz Marquez, Jazz pianist Carlos Maza Quintet , and the salsa star El Medico d la Salsa.
Saint-hill moved to Hamburg in 1994, playing with numerous local bands as well as with artists known throughout Europe. These bands performed at events and festivals such as: Rock in Park, Tollwood,blue note-new york, Summerjam, latino-americando, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz, Leverkusen Jazz Festival,etc.
Currently Leandro works as a music instructor,studio musician, saxophonist, fl, voc,cl, and comp with his band ....St-hill Colectivo...., as well as with authentic Cuban artist & great bands such as: Omar Sosa Quintet, 4to Chanchullo, Tony Martinez and The Cuban Power, J. Barreto latino world,senegal -diaspora, phase 2 corp,backbone.Leandro has also performed or recorded with the artist Patrice, Gonzalo Rubalcaba,Mercado Negro,Latin Sampling, Hilton Ruiz,Willy Chirino,jimmy bosh, Chico Freeman, Nena, Modern Talking, tätärä,The Power of Parsifal project, and Lou Bega.
