About Me

“Maggie is one of the most promising new musicians in the region… an accomplished singer and great live performer” -Ray Hanley, Greater Columbus Arts Council PresidentEmbracing both the music of Brazil and the great American songbook, Maggie’s live shows are creating a buzz. Highlights include sold out shows in Rio de Janeiro and a television appearance in the hometown of beloved singer Elis Regina.Studying at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Maggie filled her time listening to recordings of the jazz greats and began developing a style all her own. It was also during this time that Maggie started absorbing the music of Brazil. The exploration of this music has become an integral aspect of Maggie’s work.Having recorded and performed in Rio de Janeiro, Maggie worked with some of the finest musicians there including pianists’ Marcos Ariel and Luiz Avellar, drummer Kiko Freitas, and bassist Ney Conceicao. She performed two sold out shows at Rio’s Estacio de Sa in collaboration with Marcos Ariel, drummer Jurim Moreira, bassist Andre Neiva and NYC saxophonist Joel Frahm.Maggie’s performances in Brazil also include shows at Abbey Road Studio Pub in Porto Alegre with guitarist Julio Herrlein. While in Porto Alegre, she was featured in an article in the statewide newspaper Zero Hora and gave live performances on Brazilian television.Maggie leads her own jazz ensembles and started the bossa nova-samba group Canto Poetico. She has performed in the Columbus Latino Festival, Columbus Jazz & RibFest, and the Columbus Arts Festival. She has performed at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio during the Festival Latino-Americana and South of the Border Festivals. Her club performances include Nighttown in Cleveland and Acton Jazz Café in Acton, Massachussetts. She is the vocalist with Cleveland based Grupo Brasil, an ensemble formed by bassist Kip Reed and guitarist Gary April, featuring Joe Hunter on piano and Matt Perko on drums. Her current self titled CD, recorded in Rio de Janeiro is currently available at cdbaby.com and dustygroove.com.Maggie has served as jazz vocal instructor at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
