animal behavior and symbolic capacity, almost any kind of music, healthcare legislation, medicine (not just Western medicine), nature, endocrinology, neurology, lilies, natural beauty in its many forms, mountains, modern dance (particularly Alvin Ailey's work), travel (doin' it all the time now), my family and friends, learning...
At this point, I mostly want to add personal friends and acquaintances, but I will make an exception if there seems to be a compelling reason to add someone (mutual friend, several common interests, etc.) Guys, sorry, but I'm not interested in finding dates here. :) Causes and organizations I support will be featured in my "top 8" instead of ranked friends (although the concept of friend ranking is pretty comical).
The really good stuff :)
In general, I like lots of different types of music and spend LOTS of time finding new music, seeing concerts, etc. Music is a real passion of mine, and I like to think that I have great taste! (Don't we all?) I'll give anything with original style, poignant lyrics, killer harmony, enchanting melody, lots of soul, and attitude a chance. I'm usually not much of a Top 40 enthusiast, but I try to keep an open mind...
Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Amelie, Secrets and Lies, Monster, Sex and Lucia, Pecker and a few other John Waters films (with the notable exception of PF), Michael Moore films like Bowling for Columbine, mockumentaries like Fear of a Black Hat, Donnie Darko, Dancer in the Dark (great but very, very depressing), To Kill a Mockingbird, Basquiat, Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Movie, any Monty Python, Brazil, Brain Donors, Lost In Translation, Office Space...
The Daily Show, MST3K, Boston Legal, and a few others on rare occasions.
S.J. Gould, J.L. Mackey, Herman Hesse, Isaac Asimov, Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, Ruben Dario, Sylvia Plath, Langston Hughes...are some writers I've really enjoyed. Recent readings are everything Anais Nin. ::blushes:: I love reading anything imaginative or poignant, be it poetry/lyrics, books, or even blogs. I love scientific reading, especially about endocrinology, neurology, and animal nature.
I'm trying to be my own, but most people really have some admirable qualitites, don't they?
