Carrying the tradition of excellence in Hip-Hop...

About Me

Spitkicker : A collective unit that, through the power and use of words, will set trends, unify cultures, and create positive standards for communities
Mission: to create a movement that exemplifies excellence in entertainment, our artists, and empowering people and communities globally.
Spitkicker was founded by four individuals in the spring of 2000 with the intent of pleasing the fans of its artists and aiding communities through social activism. The movement consists of musicians, actors, and athletes who can positively influence youth in all communities. We will accomplish our goals by pioneering new boundaries of creative entertainment. All of the artists under the Spitkicker umbrella are extremely versatile and appeal to a vast fan demographic.
In June 2000 the Spitkicker tour was created. It was a 32 city U.S. tour featuring De La Soul, Common, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and Biz Markie. With sellout crowds and virtuous performances, it became an absolute success and was placed in the esteemed category of tours like Up in Smoke, Hard Knock Life, and Lola Palooza.
Proof of our artists marketability is illustrated by their success outside of the music world. De La Soul has completed two commercials for Apple Computers; Talib kweli, Mos Def, and De La Soul have all done Levi’s ads; And Pharoahe Monch filmed a Sprite commercial. Mos Def, in addition to hawking for VISA, is currently starring in the Pulitzer- prize winning Broadway play, Top Dog Underdog.
Spitkicker musicians have succeeded in reaching out to a diverse fan-base and diverse audience by working with artists in and outside of the hip-hop genre. De La Soul has recorded with the Beastie Boys, Redman, and Chaka Khan; Talib Kweli has worked with Erykah Badu, The Roots, Dave Chapelle and Xzibit; and Pharoahe Monch has performed with Macy Gray, Busta Rymes, Linkin Park and Wyclef Jean.
Spitkicker also has a vested interest in empowering the community of its listeners. We seek to do so by offering services and conducting community welfare programs that provide immediate and tangible benefits for these groups. For example, Pharoahe Monch has started an asthma awareness program and Mos Def and Talib Kweli own the Nkiru bookstore and community center, one of the oldest African-American bookstores in the United States. The two have also done benefit concerts together as Blackstar and Mos Def is a frequently seen face on television as a political theorist. The Spitkicker artists were featured in the song, "Hip-hop for Respect"; a track that raised money for the Amadou Diallo family and raised public awareness of police brutality. All of our artists have participated in the Rock the Vote program to encourage young Americans to vote.
