Spare Parts Puppet Theatre
UNIMA 2008
Here is the story…..
Once upon a time, a small but successful puppet theatre decided to take on a giant….. that is, to host the 20th UNIMA Congress and World Puppetry Festival, otherwise known in more familiar circles as UNIMA 2008 - The Puppet Olympics.
The date had been set: 2 - 12 April 2008
The place had been decided: Perth, Western Australia
Never before, had an event like this been held in the Southern Hemisphere. It was very exciting.
The idea was to celebrate the art of puppetry, to expose the intricate art of puppet makers and to breed a new generation of puppet makers and lovers.
“If we are going to host UNIMA 2008 – The Puppet Olympics; Why not go really overboard and get people across the world to make and send a puppet to Perth, Western Australia for the festival?â€
“Wow that would be a world first…â€
Thus, the Million Puppet Project was born – A Guinness World Record attempt for the World’s Largest Puppet Display!
Imagine, one million puppets all exhibited in one big space – sock, hand, rod, finger, junk, glove, shadow, marionette and moveable creatures never seen before.
Spare Parts Puppet Theatre invites you and your puppets to the world stage!
Be our friend! Send your puppet and join the global phenomena that is the Million Puppet Project!
Puppets sent on an adventure to the Million Puppet Project are not able to be sent home, instead, very special puppets will be auctioned to festival goers during the festival. Money raised will be donated to a UNESCO based organisation. Other puppets will be travelling all around the world to cheer up underprivileged children.
