About Me

YIRRA YAAKIN'S VISION
To Enable Aboriginal Communities to continue to perform their own stories.
About YIRRA YAAKIN
Yirra Yaakin [Yir-raarh Yaarh-kin] is based in the heart of the Noongar [ Noong-aarh] Nation – a distinct Aboriginal Cultural group from the South West of Western Australia. Yirra Yaakin is Australia’s leading Aboriginal theatre company, producing a body of work unequalled in innovation, excellence and Cultural significance. Our priority is to ensure Aboriginal theatre remains under Aboriginal Control – providing opportunities for Aboriginal artists in all levels of creation and production.
Yirra Yaakin looks globally, nurturing and supporting authentic Aboriginal theatre expression locally, nationally and internationally. A proud member of the BLAKSTAGEalliance – the National Indigenous theatre network of Australia, we work towards the wider acceptance of the Aboriginal Theatre Industry as a distinct and self-determined concern not as an appendage to mainstream theatre practice.
We are an award winning company that will forever remain Strong, Black & Deadly [-O-]
