Genevieve is an independent singer/songwriter of the "pop/contemporary with a lotta soul" variety who secretly wants to change the world, one fan at a time. She’s currently surviving in Los Angeles, but is originally from the grandeur that is the Jersey Shore. She is often accompanied by John, the guitarist; Bob, the phenom drummer; Jeff, the savior keyboardist, and a revolving cast of bassists. She sometimes accompanies ..s, but only when the times are desperate. Like when she tours...but apparently she’s pretty good, and hasn’t shattered eardrums yet.
After summers spent entertaining the masses at professional baseball games across the country, she is back in Los Angeles, working on promoting herself in any legal way she can and writing more songs, since she can’t seem to help herself.
As for the music, which is, I’m assuming, why you are checking out an artist’s site, take this thought - "I’ve been around the world, around the block, and through the ringer, and this is what I’ve got to say about it." That’s what her music sounds like.
She took the long road to get to music, and her music reflects that. It has an "old soul" quality trapped in the body of a woman who would love nothing more than to be an irresponsible kid. And who sometimes is. Tension and release. Sometimes it’s pretty, sometimes it isn’t. What she cares about is whether her music touches people and if it communicates to perfect strangers and old friends alike.
As for style, she has incorporated elements of much of the music she listened to in her short lifetime, which includes everything from the Beastie Boys to the Beach Boys to the Blind Boys of Alabama. Her musical style varies with each song, but overall, the eclectic AAA mix bounces around bits of Americana and world, country, folk, pop, rock, blues, soul and jazz. Vocally, she’s a bit of a freight train that knows when to apply the breaks, but likes to take the corners a little fast. She’s kind of a love child from a harem that includes Natalie Merchant, Carole King, Sarah McLachlan, Annie Lennox, Bruce Hornsby, Peter Gabriel, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin and Stevie Wonder. And she wishes she was Wonder Woman, because this ain’t an easy road to travel, no matter how much you love it.
Listen to the songs from "this little thing called life," "Gladiator Girl," and her as of yet untitled album if you want to hear what she’s writing about.

Influences: Who and what isn't influential in some way?

The books I've read and the art and movies I've seen, the music I've heard, the people I've met and so on. And then there's the ocean. Awww, cliche, I know. But it does do wonders to influence my mood and thoughts. Particularly when it's tossing me around like a rag doll and I'm watching my life flash by.

And lastly, a good drink will do wonders. What can you do?
Sounds Like: Voice - A Disney character with an attitude, depending on the song. Actually, I've been told I sound "a little like" everyone from Carole King to Sarah McLachlan to Natalie Merchant to Judy Collins to Joan Baez to Michael Jackson during the Jackson 5 era. The last one is a little scary, I know. I don't know who I sound like, except that I sound like me.

Music - Again, sounds like mine, mixing elements of the old blues/jazz divas, the country crooners, the pop candy, the folk storytellling, and the pop hooks. Each song is a different story, with its own feel. Like it should be, I think. But overall, it has a AAA kind of feel, kinda like the James Blunts, the Sarah McLachlans and the Annie Lennoxs of the world. With a bit of growl thrown in for good measure.

And again, this is what I think and what I've been told. You might think something else. And if you do, please indulge me.

My travels bring me back to LA and my senses

So I realized that for me, travel is like an aphrodisiac, a mental brainwash, and a chance to forget about anything I actually have to do, which is all very nice and dandy until you come home.  T...
