Antoine de la Framboise

Bands split up. I won't.

About Me

We meet Antoine de la Framboise at "Janou", a tiny Bar in Marais Quarter in Paris where he has apparently some difficulties ordering a Café au Lait. It seems that his french is much worse than ours.Antoine de la Framboise says he was born and raised in Cheveubourg, a tiny village in the south of france – that doesn't exist, as we find out later. He grew up to the tunes of postpunk and new wave and is stuck there eversince (luckily "the yoong ones" sound pretty much like the bands from those days, so M. le Framboise has finally got the feeling to be up to date again. "All yoo 'ave to doo is wait long enough", he claims with an as charming as fake french accent.)After having played in several bands between punk, wave and beat for over two decades and releasing a handful of records, M. le Framboise recognized that he loved music but hated band-life, especially rehearsal rooms and rehearsing. So he formed a new outfit, consisting only of himself. "It keeps me from argooing with arse'ol bandmates and playing songs I 'ate", states the somewhat strange thirtysomething. Why are there no lyrics in his music? "Becooze there is already too much yabbing in ze world. I 'ave nozzing to tell or say, so why should I bozzer with writing merde lyrics. I seenk, se music says it all." De la Framboise is so unwilling to write down words that his tunes don't even have proper names. They are called "Track01", "Track04", "Track14". Even more astonishing: there is at least one musical error in nearly every track. Is the allegedly french tunesmith just too lazy to correct the faulty tracks or is there more to it? "None of yoor bizznez", says de la Framboise and leaves for the restroom. As he didn't return for over an hour, we finally pay the bill (including his café au lait) and leave. You shouldn't talk to this man. But you should listen to his music.(John Brentwood, MNE)
