Formed in a small Alabama town in October of 2004, Unknown Terror dares to break tradition of the good ole boy country/southern rock music that is generally accepted in the area.
Unknown Terror is the brainchild of the brother team of vocalist Bobby Johnson and guitarist Billy Johnson. Growing up with dreams of starting their own metal band, they quickly found a lack of like-minded metal musicians in the area. With their main musical influences being Megadeth, Slayer, and Pantera, it was difficult to blend their music styles with other local musicians. Staying true to typical metal fashion, the brother team would not compromise their styles to fit in.
Billy and Bobbys dreams of forming their own band took a step towards reality in September of 2004 after meeting bass player Crayton Smith. At the time, Crayton was not playing in a band and considered himself retired after numerous failed attempts with other bands. Even with the musical influences of Black Sabbath, Type O Negative, and Metallica, Crayton continued to find himself playing in southern rock bands. After being approached by Billy and Bobby, followed by a few more days of follow-up conversations, Crayton decided to get a new bass setup and give it a shot. After a few practices, everything was falling into place. The only thing missing now was a drummer.
The solution to this problem came in October of 2004. Bobby had heard from an acquaintance of the band about a drummer named Jeremy Cole. Bobby and Billy remembered Jeremy from high school, but did not know that he was a drummer. Bobby had heard that Jeremy was working for the local water department, so Bobby set out to find him. He found Jeremy reading water meters in a residential neighborhood and invited him to come to a practice and try things out. Jeremy sat in for one session and was hired on the spot. With a very different list of musical influences from the other members of the band, Jeremy credits his influences to alternative rock bands such as Story of the Year, Chevelle, Simple Plan, 36 Crazyfists, and Papa Roach. At first, Jeremy was unsure how he was going to fit in as a metal drummer, but his playing brought a unique blend to the already mismatched styles of thrash guitar and slow driving bass. In January 2006, Jeremy and Unknown Terror decided to part ways.
In February 2006, Tyron Smith stepped in as the new drummer for Unknown Terror. Tyron and bass player Crayton are also brothers, and have been playing together off and on for years. With the musical influences of Pantera and Sepultura, Tyron brings a strong and aggressive style of drumming to the table to spice up Unknown Terror's style. With the extreme dark depth of Tyron and Crayton's playing coupled with Billy's six-string shreading and Bobby's full out assault on vocals, Unknown Terror should have great things ahead of them.
