Locust Grove formed around May of 2004 in Woodstock when Joseph Roderick and Lee Wilson met up with Jake Benedict through a mutual friend. Jake was vocals and Matt was drums, when Matt's family moved to Florida Jake took the reins as drummer due to his previous experience on drums. We found Karl on AtlantaMusician.com, tried him out once and he was in. An old friend of Joseph's called him and said he wanted to start a metal band, our line up was solid with the addition of Steve on 2nd guitar. We started writing songs and in February of 2005 we recorded our first three song demo at Ledbelly Sound in Woodstock with Matt Washburn. It was mastered by Rodney Mills and was released on May 4th and 5th, 2005 when we played our first two shows in Kennesaw and Valdosta with Mourningstar and 7-10 Split. We continued to play all around north Georgia and also played Tampa FL, Rock Hill SC twice, Layette AL and opened for Dead To Fall and Ion Dissonance at Swayze's. We had been writing new material the whole time we were playing shows and in February of '06 we began recording our debut E. P. The Hour At Hand with E. C. "Cognac" Hamilton at End of the World Studios. We spent about two weeks tracking seven songs and mastered it on 3-2-06 at Rodney Mills, although it would be six months before we publicly release the E. P.; we continued to play shows seeing Rock Hill again and Danville VA, with Withered. It was in this time that Lee Wilson stepped down as bassist and Jordan came into the band. Jordan's first show was our third trip to Rock Hill. After sitting on the new material for six months we went to Even at Deathgasm Records and had him press 1,000 copies of The Hour At Hand and we released it to the public on 9-15-06 at Swayze's Venue in Kennesaw. Then we played more and more shows, one in Cartersville with Ion Dissonance, Nights Like These, and As Blood Runs Black. We also played Tennessee for the first time putting our state count at seven. In the beginning of '07 we wrote Afflicted Mentality in about three weeks for the Swayze's compilation and wrote Abbadon shortly after that. On 4-20-07 Aaron Hickman played The Swarm on 96.1, a large Atlanta rock station. On 4-21 & 4-22 we tracked both songs to be released as the Demo 2007 with E.C. Hamilton again and Rodney Mills mastering them on 5-19-07. The demo is released to our street team and official myspace page only at this point.
The End of Locust Grove:
-On June 28th 2007 Steve Casey, our original lead guitarist announced his departure from the band. We wish Steve the best of luck.
-It has been a few months since we have practiced, the date is 8-19-2007, and Karl and I are ready to practice again, I spoke with Joseph and he is down for practice on Wednesday. Next I called Jordan, who announced his departure from the ranks of Locust Grove also. He is going to play with another band, good luck to him.
-On 8-21-2007 Locust Grove officially broke up. I talked to Joseph and he is out, I can't say I'm surprised, it's been on the horizon for a few weeks. I would like to thank all of our friends, fans, clubs we played, promoters who helped us, families and the members of Locust Grove. It was a hell of a ride but all things must come to an end.
