You have no idea how *almost* famous I am!

About Me

Hi, this is my new page since my other page was mysteriously deleted !
When people hear my music, it makes them think of John Lennon and George Harrison. And it makes them smile. And that makes me smile!
What started out as a "for fun" project ended up turning into a massive endeavor. I have just completed a 14 song album containing songs that have great personal meaning to me. The CD is currently available on CDBaby ( www.cdbaby.com/stevebarden ) and all the regular digital outlets (iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, Napster, etc.).
I play most of the instruments on the album. It was partially done just to see if I could pull it off. I did have my friend Eddie Young play cello on a few tracks and ended up having an old friend, Leonard Liu, contributing violin and viola, and also Mark Waters sang harmony on a "Simon & Garfunkel" style folk tune.
A word about my singing. A lot of people tell me that I sound like John Lennon. Particularly on the first couple of songs, "I Think Of You" and "Beautiful Soul". While I don't think I do, I do appreciate the compliment. After all, being compared to a Beatle isn't the worst thing anyone could say about me! Also, my slide guitar playing is very George Harrison-ish so I can see where the comparisons come from.
My music has been very influenced by the Beatles so it's no surprise that my music tends to have a "Beatles" quality. I don't purposely try to sound Beatle-ish; it just comes out that way!
Here's my official bio:
Steve Barden heard the Beatles' first performance on the Ed Sullivan Show and hasn't been the same since. It's no wonder why the Beatles' music has had such a lasting influence on Steve's music.
Steve began playing guitar at the age of nine. He has studied guitar at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, and has studied composition in film scoring at UCLA. Steve has performed with bands throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's until he got tired of lugging equipment around. Now, armed with a personal recording studio, Steve is able to fulfill his dreams of writing music and having it performed just as he hears it in his head.
Steve is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, Dobro, mandolin, ukulele (almost any stringed instrument!), piano, flute, harmonica, and sings. As a singer-songwriter, Steve began writing songs in the mid-70's. But as he focused on his guitar technique, recording skills, and all-around charm, it wasn't until the 21st century that Steve began to focus on songwriting again. His first full-length CD of original songs was released in 2007 entitled "Tallulah Lake", a 14 song collection that includes 3 instrumental pieces.
Steve's background in composing, arranging, orchestrating, and performing most of the instruments on the album has allowed him to express himself in a way that compliments the deeply personal songs on the album. Steve is looking forward to sharing his music with the world.
