His work also includes the musical direction for the great Argentinean singer Katie Viqueira, which was hailed by the Boston Globe as one of the divas of the Latin scene. Together they recorded the CD "The Other Side". He also serves as pianist for the Felipe Salles group. Brazilian music has always been a big passion for Nando... “a lot of the voicings and harmonic sequences I use are derived from the richness of some of the greatest Brazilian songwriters which have an amazing ear for voice-leading. This results in a more horizontal, “line oriented†harmony†That strong influence is reflected on his work with singer Giana Viscardi, on a monthly performance at the Acton Jazz Cafe, which led to the recording of the Nando Michelin Brazilian Project’s “Live at the Acton Jazz Cafe†CD released on the summer of 2002.
Other artists that feature Nando’s playing are the wonderful Brazilian singer Teresa Ines with whom he performs all over New England, and straight-ahead Jazz trumpeter Tony D’Aveni. MPB icons Jair Rodrigues, Flavio Venturini, Celso Adolfo among others, have relied on Nando for their New England tours. Currently he teaches at Berklee College of Music, Brookline Music School, and Tufts University.
