About Me

My name is Michael Eatman Muhammad Professional musician / vocalist: Entertainer, Frontman and R&B (all types and time frames), Oldies R&B and Soul, Neo Soul and Smooth Jazz, Stage names: Most commonly known as Michael E. Muhammad. Over the years I have been called MEM, Mic (as in microphone), Mic E. - as in Mikey, Brother Michael and passionately called E-Man a name given to me by Jazz Bassist, Gerald Veasely. I have years of music experience. I have become known as the ultimate frontman and opening act. I have MC skills along with skills in getting the crowd involved and active. I always leave them up on their feet! I started out my music life in Englewood NJ. I later went on to study jazz at William Paterson University. I then finished out my college life and graduated from Rutgers University in 1986 in music / jazz composition. I am experienced on drums, bass, sax, percussion and keys. My first love as a musician is singing. I love to sing in the styles of Peabo Bryson, Stevie Wonder, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Donny Hathaway, Jeff Osborne and Earth Wind and Fire (ETC). I have been performing live on stage and or in studio for more than 30 years. I have been an opening act for such major groups as The Manhattans, The Delfonics, The Persuaders, Soul Generation, Ray-Goodman and Brown and Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, Irene Cara of Fame, Clarence Burk of the Five Stair Steps as back ground vocalist and bass player of his Invisible Mans Band and many many other top groups. I have also performed along with Grammy award winner Regina Belle of whom I started out my music life along with as far back as children in Englewood NJ Middle School. I have been across the planet in jam sessions with acts such as the late Noel Pointer, Michael Brown, Najee, Pieces of a Dream, Ronny Jordan and Angie Bofill. I have performed on cruise ships and on the large stage, in doors and outdoors. I have years of performing along with great support musicians and producers such as smooth jazz's, Regis Branson; The root to the New Jack Swing, Bernard Belle; BET Jazz, Carl Lester El and Luther Vandross's back ground coordinator, Cynthia "Cindy" Mizelle and s singer Sandy Mercer. I have also performed along with the Soul Foundation, a local NJ East Coast group. Travel is not a problem for me. Have gigged abroad as far tours in South Africa and across USA and Island. I don't spend or need a lot of rehearsing. Give me the show list and I do my home work. I come to rehearsals gig ready. A few minutes or an hour or two of touch up and getting in sync and I am stage ready. The spirit behind my music and passion in my songs is my family and the cause of my people and the heart of people in general. I am the proud husband of a beautiful wife Deanna, four children and I am now also a grandfather.

Add to My Profile | More VideosI am still a "FAN" of soooooo many. My musical influence are great in number so I will just settle down to tell of a few. I grew up with some of my music influences as a young child and was blessed to have performed with some of them in my music development; folks such as my family - Kevin "Gator" Baines, Anthony Thomas, Tony Mahone, Bernard Belle, Regina Belle, Cindy Mizelle, Kendall Turner Jr, Cubie Burke, Vincent Lilly, Carl Lester El, Regis Branson, Ricky Santiago, Hassan Eatman and also the late great and funky bass of Mr Michael Brown - I have been influenced musically by the talent of Abe Fogle, Jeff Lawrence "J-Team", Brian Morgan, Trevor Saunders, Kevin and Keith Parlor, Be E. King Jr, Clarence Burke of the Five Stair Steps and MR JOHN PERCELL my high school band teacher! There were youth bands such as "REALITY" and "SLIQUE' (the que is pronounced as a K) " and "Unfinished Business", "Total Eclipes" and "Black Sun". These were some of the many Englewood and Teaneck NJ influences. Mannnnn! Oh man did I and do I looooove these wonderful people who have inspired me so much. These folks have raw natural talent. Then there are the great goups and artist such as Peabo Bryson, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations in fact all of Motown as a studio and the whole of the artist in general from the Jacksons to the Four Tops, Grover Washington Jr., Stan Getz, Stan Kenton, Chuck Mangione these three I saw at a benefit concert at the Dwight Morrow High School when I was in the 7th grade. Dizzy Gillespe who would counsel me on the music world while buying juice at Garden State Farms by the Palisades Ave. monument. George Benson who I watch practicing on a guitar that he was considering to purchase at Gilsonite Guitar Store, The Isley Brothers who live around the corner, The Moments / Ray Goodman and Brown who recorded down the street at All Platinum / Sugar Hill Records. Ben E. King Sr who let us practice on occasion at his house with his son. Milly Jackson who my mom was the school teacher for kids. I was in bands that styled ourself as Earth Wind and Fire and Parliament/ Funkadelic and George Clinton from up in Plainfield NJ. There are the great voices of Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gay. I am still touched by the gifted soulful voice of Natalie Cole and Phyllis Hyman. Shoot !! The bottle line is "I love music" (O'Jays) and was raised surrounded by a musical community. There are too many influences to comment on.........
