About Me

Please visit my website www.tomyarborough.com to hear the entire "War Torn Years" album or purchase the cd. I am basically a storyteller as my songs tend to show. I have just finished recording an album in Hong Kong that I am self-producing. The album "War Torn Years" is dedicated to my fellow Vietnam Veterans. The four songs on this page "Curious Mind", "Wounded Walking", "War Torn Years" and "That's Just The Way That It Was" are four of the songs from the album. ..I plan on donating a portion of the proceeds of the CD to U.S. Veterans Matter. They are a foundation set up to help wounded combat veterans. Check out their website at www.usveteransmatter.org My songs are my way of trying to help. Not only with a portion of the proceeds going to help veterans but also with the stories in the songs perhaps helping some veterans and their families know that they aren't alone in their struggles. I believe counseling centers such as the Veteran centers will have a heavy workload when our boys come back from the current conflict. The song "Jenny" deals with the issue of the homeless and our treatment of the homeless. I am honored to have had the song (a portion of the song) used in the film "Small Acts of Kindness" which I posted here. The film makers (Patty and Mark) have been working on a full length documentary (Working title "The Invisible Ones") on the Vietnam Veteran homeless issue. I am honored that they have chosen two of my songs "Wounded Walking" and "Haunting Eyes" to be featured in that film as well. I have also written a musical play "Loves, Lies and Libation". The songs "Is this love or uncut cocaine", "Top it off will ya", "Expletive there, Expletive here," " The truth can hurt a person", "Silent Prayer" and "Being unpleasant's an acquired skill" are from the play. It also has a Vietnam war tone to the story. My quest is to attempt to educate those who have not been in combat to be sympathetic (if they can not be empathetic) to those who have been in combat. 25% of the homeless are Vietnam Veterans and there will soon, I am afraid, be a new generation of homeless suffering from combat related PTSD relating to the Iraq War. No matter how you feel about our president or the current conflict, let's all show a little love and understanding to those who fought so that we could have freedom. If you are angry at the CEO of a company for some of the decisions he makes you don't take it out on the check out clerk. Some of those who come back from combat do not necessarily have wounds that show on the outside. Peace, Tom

Influences: I like the story teller poet singers. Woody Guthrie is at the top of the heap, along with Bob Dylan. The Beatles used to do quite a bit of it when they were doing songs like "Eleanor Rigby". The Eagles, especially "Hotel California".
Sounds Like: Some have compared my song writing to Donovan, Bob Dylan and Lenoard Cohen. To be compared to any of those is the highest complement I can receive.

Thanks to my moral supporters

As I have traveled this last year and met some new people, I have become aware of how rare you people are who support this cause of the veterans who are suffering from PTSD and know it or in some case...
