And like I said in the beginning, there should have been so many, many more musicians listed here - rock justice is not done!
Movies:
WARNING! I'm a movie monster...
Magnolia (The way Anderson and co let the same music theme recur and alternate between diegesis/nondiegesis is just awesome!), Car Wash (C'mon, you know you like it really!), Blow Up!, Mask (Serious love), The Color Purple, Cabaret (Here I go again!), The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, but Your Teeth Are in My Neck ( Yeah, we all know that feelin..…- HUH?!!), Man with a Movie Camera - and later on with the beginning in 1958 when lighter and more mobile equipment came out on the market -Direct Cinema and Cinéma Vérité (If Direct Cinema with its more observational way of filming made a major impact on the news broadcasting, you could only imagine the indirect influence the techniques representative of Cinéma Vérité [hand-held AND interactive camera] may have had on todays aesthetics for the TV medium! What do you reckon?)
The Toolbox Murders ( Big up, Hooper! Yep, the genius who made us scream in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre [Radically awesome - or should I say - fierce?;)- acting] is doing it again in this hair-raiser. In fact, I'm still walking around looking like this...O! O! Looks like some people will do anything to get on MySpace...;)(see below):
Watch out for the scene there the leading lady goes down the stairs to the dark cellar. Suddenly she shines a torch straight at the cam and with that breaking down the barrier between screen space and real space. – Extending the screen space/cellar into real space/auditorium. The torchlight's piercing the darkness in the auditorium/cellar. We know the baddie's in there... somewhere – and so are we! HEELP ME OUTTA HERE!!! Oh, sorry, I got a bit carried away...
As many of you kindly pointed out to me [- Man, you're tough!;], it's, of course, always debatable whether the use of a specific technique in a certain shot creates a total break of the diegetic illusion, or only distance the spectator from the film's world – creating a break within.)
Fisher King, Bagdad Café, Scream ( IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIH! Oh, did I mean the movie?! – Sorry!), Psycho, Vertigo ( You're da man, Hitch!), Jules et Jim (It's something magic about those Nouvelle Vague movies!), Here is Your Life/Här har du ditt liv (Perhaps a development of the Nouvelle Vague film techniques, but MAGICAL nonetheless! Jan Troell must be one of the most outstanding auteurs in the world. – Watch the proof!)
Cabin Boy! Empire of the Sun, EVERYTHING WITH JIM CARREY!, Vampyr (Dreyer's tricky, misleading pannings and tracking shots in this one made me sit shouting, ....WHERE?!! WHERE?!!.... Please, don't ask me how it ends – I got chucked out...).
Ordet (Stunning loooong takes and real smooth cam work make this a breathless Dreyer film!), La Grande Ilusion, Thank You for Smoking, Marie Antoinette, Ladri di biciclette (Neorealism at its best!), Nosferatu (Hey, that dude looks like me – cool!), La Chute de la Maison Usher, Coeur fidèle (JEAN EPSTEIN! - Need to say more?;), Lethal Weapon, Zerkalo (we miss you, Tarkovskij!).
Vargtimmen (I hate to disagree with a film legend, but I really like this one, Mr Unforgettable and irreplaceable Bergman - THE genius. Heaven will turn into a magic film screen. )
Potemkin (Amazing montage work!), Un Condamné á mort s..est échappé (For ''Brill'' Bresson's way of letting us watch with our ears!), Metallica – The Movie, Hiroshima mon Amour, Mama Roma, Week-end un film comme les autres,
Pierrot le fou (Crazily fantastic, Godard!), Lost in Translation, What's Eating Gilbert Grape? (Both Leonardo di Caprio and Johnny Depp in the same movie – it just can't go wrong!) - HELP, I CAN'T STOP!
Napoléon (Merci, Abel Gance. Anyone who can ride a horse upside down and still be filming is a hero of mine!), L'Atalante (No one's above you, Jean Vigo!).
In the Mood for Love, Fallen Angels (I've never watched an ''OH NO, And I paid to see this one'' - movie by Wong Kar-Wai. The He Qiwu character [- brilliantly played by Takeshi Kaneshiro] = me in disguise.), La jetee and not to be forgotten – the Hollywood version of the same story –Twelve Monkeys.
Hey, digging action comedies? Then, oh baby, you're gonna love this! Winners & Sinners 1,2. These show there's not only one way of making a grand slam. In fact, there are three - Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung & Yuen Biao! And to be honest, EVERYONE's a winner in these flicks - the spectator in particular. Our lives just wouldn..t be complete without it!;)
The Exploitation Films from the 50s by Arkoff, Corman, Wood, Pal and the great gang are true Mo-cult! If you haven't watched any of these flicks, you haven't really watched a flick at all - ... And I swear that's an understatement!;)
A Police Story (W-O-W! Jackie Shan knows how to do it and he shows it again! I hear they are still fishing yellow rubber ducks at that harbour!;) When I watched this wild flick the lady sitting in front of me at the cinema had a gigantic hairdo, which, of course, was blocking half of my view. I had to sit and guess what was going on on the other half of the screen. Don't ask me how Shan and his cool crew finally beats the baddies though – they were already knocked out on my side of the screen. ). And many, many more...
Television:
Buffy and the Vampire Slayers! (One weekend I watched the whole series from beginning to end twice.
I would have done it a third time, but my boss called and told me it was Monday and I was being late for work - AREN'T THERE ANY DOCTORS FOR DISTURBING BEHAVIOUR LIKE THAT?!!;)

Da ladies first: Oprah! Ellen Degeneres,
The Late Show with David Letterman, Jay Leno - and he sure ain't bad at push-ups either (PHENOMENAL is the word.)! Larry The King!
And Europes own host with the most – Ray Cokes! (- THUMBS UP!;), not to mention Michael Parkinson ( - Ladies and gentlemen, it doesn't get any better than this! Radically awesome interviewing technique )!
Saturday Night Live, The Amazing Race, That '70s Show, Fear Factor (- SHOWTIME!).
Mad about hot innovative ideas in film/TV/music video production, so MTV's Alternative Nation (Toby Amies you're greatly missed!) and MTV's Awards Shows still keep me MTV-tized. Pimp My Ride - Hey, I love this awesome gang! Why watch TV - when you could watch MTV?
The Oscar Ceremony is a BIG must-see too!...
80 years of film & television at its best!
