BIOGRAPHY:
Less than 5% of Hollywood's film and television casting directors are African American. In this well-kept secret of a career, LaMONT PETE's eye for new talent helped him break through the barrier. Once through, his willingness to take any job and glean the skills from those around him kept him in. Now, 10 years after he first learned of casting director as a career option, he's built an impressive resume and, more important, a stellar reputation.
With hit shows such as PUSSYCAT DOLLS PRESENTS....."GIRLICIOUS", which will be airing Feb 18th on The CW,THE REAL WORLD, THE SIMPLE LIFE, PARENTAL CONTROL, BLIND DATE, BLACK & WHITE AND MANY OTHERS under his belt, LaMONT PETE also counts producing for shows such as The BET talk show "OH DRAMA" among his television credits.
In an industry comprised of some 400 television, film, commercial and/or music video casting directors, only 12 to 15 are African American women and even fewer are black men.
Today LaMONT PETE, a freelance casting director for several shows under VIACOM, which includes MTV, BET, CW and PARAMOUNT PICTURES spends his days jockeying for casting assignments (with the help of a personal agent), sifting through mountains of pictures and resumes, searching for actors who fit a network's specifications, auditioning those selected and then sending the chosen few to be interviewed by the network.
Lamont completed his business communication studies at University of Miami, in addition to educating himself taking every casting workshop he could find. Since a fled for talent can't be taught in a classroom, he combined his workshops with his experience as a casting recruiter for almost three years and an associate for five more before branching out on his own as a CD.
