Messenger

The concept for Messenger was born 30 years before the band became a reality. Three decades ago Gene Eric Mann had the idea for a band that would explore and fuse several genres of music in support of lyrics that actually had something cerebral to share. Upon conception Eric began drafting lyrics and music for this prospective band, but he would have to wait until another generation of musicians were born and matured before he would meet the artists he sought to make Messenger a reality.
Silence began working with Eric in March of 2007 in preparation of the Mann & Friends Acoustical Event II show in Mt Airy in April. Like Eric, Silence was into several genres of music and enjoyed fusing various principles and scales into new sounds. He also wanted to create songs that had something worth saying, and therefore he was just the kind of artist that Eric wanted for his concept band.
Silence expanded on Eric's musical ideas, providing arrangement, enhancing the inherent darkness, and appending to the music several remarkable and melodic yet very technical leads. After a month Eric began learning the compositions of Silence, and the two of them began creating new songs together.
But Eric's lyrics were frequently dry and lacked depth, and neither Silence nor Eric were vocalists. Eric's vocal melodies were also rather narrow in range. Finding a vocalist who would appreciate what Silence and Eric were composing and who would have the skill to sing to their untraditional collaborations shouldn't have been an easy task.
But Fate smiled upon Silence and Gene Eric Mann when Shae decided she would sit in with the men during one of their rehearsals. Before that practice was over, Shae had with a natural genious greatly improved the lyrics she was handed and the melodies she was hearing. When Shae sang the revised lyrics with her open and haunting melodies, Eric knew then that his concept band was now a reality.
With broad-minded compositions and thought-provoking lyrics, these three artists have something to say. They have a message to deliver. Hear ye, hear ye! By order of His Highness, the King and Lord of Creativity, ye are hereby advised to Rock out with Messenger! Rock on!
