Sounds Like: Uccio Soro (Gavino Soro) was born on July 16th, 1967. At the age of 9 his father introduced him to M° Gianfranco Dessanti, his first classical guitar teacher, who mentored him for the first 5 years. His father loved Sardinian traditional music, so Uccio Soro applied to its study. At the age of 19, in 1986, he decided to study music in depth and applied to the “Saint Louis Jazz School†in Rome to attend M° Maurizio Dioguardi’s guitar course and M° Bruno Tommaso’s Armony and Composition courses. In 1985, he founded the "ICE", a new music band in collaboration with his good friend Paolo Zannin (Piero Marras’s drummer), Andrea Desole, Giancarlo Longoni and Massimo Cossu (Tazenda’s guitar). In 1987 the ICE were awarded the first prize during the Castocaro Festival with the song “Mere mannaâ€, written by Piero Marras. In 1988 the ICE participated in Sanremo Festival with the song “Mamaâ€, written by Piero Marras.
The Festival and their appearances on national tv channels were followed by an intense and fruitful 2-year concert season. In 1992, Uccio, Paolo Zannin and Fabio D’Onofrio founded a new music band, "Arcano" and cut the new CD "Terra ’e oro", entirely sung in Sardinian. The "Arcano" experience and the debut CD achieved a widespread success among both critics and live concert audience. In 1989, Uccio continued his studies at the “Birdland Music School†with guitar player Fabio Mariani, one of the most talented musicians of the Italian jazz circle. He attended Mariani’s seminars with Umberto Fiorentino and Lello Panico and M° Giovanni Agostino Frassetto’s music workshops, one of the teachers at the local Conservatoire and conductor of the Sardinian Jazz Orchestra. Between 1992 and 1999 he taught modern guitar and organised music workshops at the Birdland Music School. Since the year 2000 he has been playing (live and in recording studios) with popular singer Piero MARRAS. Since 1993, he has studied Armony and Arrangement, blending classical, ethnic and pop jazz music. He is now collaborating as a guitar player, composer, arranger and programmer with some of the main Sardinian artists. In 1997 he arranged Franco MADAU’s "Gennas". He recently spent two days of hard work in a recording studio with Italian artist Eugenio Finardi, recording “Un amore diversoâ€, one of the songs of Carla Denule’s new CD. He was also acknowledged in TAZENDA’s new release “VIDAâ€.
His new creative lab "StudiUS" will soon be operational. Meanwhile, Alberto Erre’s “Blu Studioâ€, Paolo Zannin’s “Zanna Studio†and Jo Erre’s “Ichnosound†still provide a great service at local level.
