the life & hunchin' times of Hasil "Haze" Adkins
( [email protected] )
in production present thru winter 2007 for planned release in Fall of 2008.
"Like the Bible and toilet paper, the music of Hasil Adkins belongs in every household, and none is a home without it." - Nick Tosches
"I didn't start off to sound this way, I just had bad microphones and a cheap tapedeck. ...Lord, ...if it wasn't for cheap recording equipment I wouldn't even have a career." - Hasil "Haze" Adkins
MY BLUE STAR, the definitive documentary on the life, muses & music of primal Appalachian bluesman savant Hasil "Haze" Adkins contains never before seen personal home video of the Haze both at his remote West Virginia mountain home and out on the road.
Including appearances by Julien Nitzberg, Dexter Romweber, Hank III, Joe Coleman, Joe Buck, G.G.Allin, Scott H. Biram, Southern Culture On The Skids, Angry Johnny & the Killbillies, Jesco White & family, Larry Groce of Mountain Stage, Michael Lipton, Jon Steele from The Empty Glass, Shane Speal, Memphis Johnny Lowebow, the original "Hunchin' Girls", Crazy Amy, Jim Tucci, and many of Hasil's family and friends, ...even actually going back to Boone County with original "Wild World of Hasil Adkins" producer Julien Nitzberg 18 years later for a gripping and revealing look at what inspired him to make the original Hasil documentary ...and how Hasil almost killed him before it was over!!!
This comprehensive documentary is being produced with the full support of Hasil's manager & family and showcases many of his never before released early 1950's Country and Blues recordings as well as a variety of live concert footage spanning Haze's entire career including rare home video of Hasil on the bus with Hank III, Haze's legendary 1994 SLEAZEFEST performance,
rare concert footage with G.G.Allin, and the promo DVD Hasil sent to the Conan O'Brien show shortly before his untimely passing in April 2005.
MY BLUE STAR picks up where Nitzbergs' ground-breakingly steller "THE WILD WORLD OF HASIL ADKINS" leaves off, getting past the crazy head-choppin' raw meat eating wildman image and exploring the real man and the serious artist behind the myth, ...at home, on the road, up close and in his own words!
Many called him "The King of Rockabilly" yet Hasil himself shunned that title.
MY BLUE STAR tells what Hasil thought about his unique sound, how he created it, and what his real inspirations and passions were in a very intimate never before seen way.
A special live concert DVD "HASIL ADKINS - LIVE & HUNCHAFIED"
is also being planned for release with MY BLUE STAR
and will only be available in a special MY BLUE STAR limited edition 1,000 dvd run.
Each hand numbered limited edition dvd will contain an actual piece of wood from
the humble 3 room cabin Hasil grew up & spent most of his life in,
plus a small piece of the Hunchin' Bus, Hasil's old tour bus
(a customized NYC transit bus) that still resides in his holler like a gleeming silver monument!Hasil's relatives & supporters have been working to preserve Hasil's family homestead
as a true West Virginia landmark and have generously donated a plank from the cabin
to musician luthiers Shane Speal & Tomi O to make a special pair of custom one-of-a-kind
MY BLUE STAR "Hunchcaster" electric guitars!
Like Hasil himself, each one will be totally unique
one will be auctioned on ebay to help Hasil's family preserve the homestead
and the other Hunchcaster will be shown & exhibited at various museums and events
to support Hasil's amazing musical legacy and help keep his name & music alive & hunchin' for generations to come.
