About Me

/ Biography
"Beneath the body I notice façades, undreaming even of fields."

Nicolai Riccardo Moldoveanu Grey lives in Monaco and Montréal, Canada and has been releasing depressing music since 2002. His main musical entity, Nick Grey & The Random Orchestra (contributors including Martyn Bates, Charlemagne Palestine, Jessica Constable, Far Black Furlong etc.) has often been entertainingly depicted as "snorecore", "absence music", "ideal for sessions of late-night estrangement" or "typical bongwater mouthwash gargles".
He is a current member of the projects 230 Divisadero, 48 Cameras, and Grey Force Wakeford.
His favorite word is conceal.
/ Press Quotes
There's little point in describing each song that Nick Grey has brought before us on this exceptional album. Suffice to say, nothing is out of place and nothing stands out except ALL of it, yet it is neither an album of songs nor an album of purely experimental works, the record standing shamanically and entirely successfully at the doorway between both genres (...) This album is one of the most truly ambient records Ive heard in many a year, and rotating it endlessly can send the listener close to catatonia and nudging sleep. - Julian Cope
An eccentric and highly literate fantasy. - The Wire
"Thieves Among Thorns" is one of the best albums I have heard in years - one of my favorite albums Dark Holler Hand/Eye has ever released (though, to be fair, I am rather biased to them all). Still, I find this work enchanting and haunting in all the right ways. My highest recommendation. - Timothy Renner (Stone Breath)
An amazing duet album (...) Think of this project as being a sort of psychedelic exploration, never heavy handed, or overtly trippy, blended with a subtle, understated pop sensibility as done through the minds of people without the aggressive need to beat one about the head with the obvious. - Foxy Digitalis 8/10
