About Me

For nearly ten years, Acacia Sears has been hushing noisy bar crowds with a smoldering voice and accessibly poetic lyrics. Her original songs take the well-worn topic of love (with a penchant for the unattainable or unrequited varieties) and turn it into something untried and yet achingly familiar. Now residing halfway between her roots in Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC, Acacia can be seen at bars, outdoor festivals, and coffee shops all over the metro area, and hopes to go on tour in 2008 to promote her debut album, Dialtones (available now through Sleepy Records ).

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: acaciasears.com
Band Members: I can either be seen as a solo act, or with my band:
Chris Hamilton of Radiation Puppy on bass guitar and harmony vocals,
Ed Graves on drums, and
Mike Soukup on lead guitar.
Right now, we're just the Acacia Sears Band, but we're still throwing around ideas.
Influences: Ani Difranco, Death Cab for Cutie, Patty Griffin, Portishead, The Shins, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Dar Williams, Heather Nova, Lisa Loeb, Tori Amos, Bright Eyes, Sia
Sounds Like: Poetic like Ani Difranco or Fiona Apple, but melodic like Portishead or Sarah McLachlan. I like to say I'm comparable to a female Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service) if I had to choose one person for my audio aspirations.
(Just don't say Jewel, I hate that)
Record Label: Sleepy Records
Type of Label: Indie
