Phil Wood

Electric Bass Player

About Me

Phil Wood was born in Lancaster UK. He was brought up in the best possible place for music, with his family being steeped in musicians of one kind or another, he was always around either music being played by his Mum and Dad at church, at home or just on a tape player. Phil started out with piano lessons at aged 6 but quickly became bored with the 'classical' regime before moving to clarinet aged 12. But within a year another instrument came into the home being of course a bass. It was on this instrument that for the first time in his life he had found something he feel good on and enjoy the music, being inspired solely by Abraham Laboriel off Hosanna music recordings, he developed a style closely matching that. Shortly after he found out about many of the great bass players from a good local friend in the music shop, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Alain Caron, Matthew Garrison etc etc. So from there he had an endless supply of inspiration and guidance. After visiting New York Phil made the decision to study Jazz and harmony and especially the work of Charlie Parker/Dizzy Gillespie and apply all the work he had done on bass to a be-bop style music. Hopefully creating something fresh and different on his Fender Jazz & Marleaux Basses Phil is in the process of composing & recording some new tracks and Standards that will hopefully not just reach the 'Jazz' audience but a wider range people. Thankyou for reading and feel free to get in touch.
