T.H.U. G :ISOM LOWMAN
Shoe stores are like a second home to the urban
community, so imagine being the man responsible for
bringing a large portion of the southeast one of the
most successful shoe franchises in the nation;
Athlete’s Foot is the store and entrepreneur Isom
Lowman Jr. can claim the credit. Having owned over
20 stores to date, this ambitious business man strives
to show the world that a major component to fulfilling
your dreams definitely comes from helping your hood.
Being the owner of a major shoe chain makes most
people wonder if Lowman was born wealthy, but this
South Carolina native grew up just like next, outside of
an undeniable, yet unrecognizable thirst for business.
Lowman made is way to Atlanta in ’94 to attend
Morehouse College with initial plans to major in pre-
medicine, but three years in had a sudden change of
heart; Lowman changed his major to business, a
decision that couldn’t have come at a better time. The
death of a college friend’s father brought Isom a little
money, and fostering a business mind, he decided to
invest the money in a then-little-known stock called
Yahoo, and flipped his paper to over $60,000 by the
time he graduated Cum Laude in 1998. Lowman
admitted to being proud of his accomplishments at
that time, but also knew that earning a couple
thousand dollars wasn’t the end of his business
journey, which is how he came to invest in Athlete’s
Foot, he looked at his neighborhood in Atlanta in a
search to find a market that could benefit the
community, and Lowman found a direct match in the
shoe game. Lowman created the Isom Lowman Group
and the rest is history.
Lowman’s accomplishments don’t just hold once
owning 23 Athlete’s Foot stores under his belt (five
New Orleans locations were destroyed in Hurricane
Katrina); The Isom Lowman Group owns several other
stores including Fame Sports, and Supreme Footwear
which are located in Underground Atlanta, GA. He is
also the builder and money man behind three retail
strip shopping centers in Atlanta. Alongside being a
business owner, Lowman has proven himself a
community activist and overall inspiration by
mentoring youth and investing in the hood; he’s the
epitome of a T.H.U.G.!
T.H.U. G :MONA SCOTT Violator Management Co-owner and President Mona
Scott is "a 21st Century Renaissance sister," quoted
by Essence magazine. Mona's expertise in managing,
marketing, touring, and promotion has helped to steer
superstar careers of Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Mobb
Deep, Noreaga and others. Scott has maintained a
place at the top of the with a career that now spans
more than a decade to prove it . Scott, who handles
the day- to-day operations at Violator, is considered a
pioneer in her field. Under her guidance, she has
helped earn Violator 8 to 10 million in record sales
annually for the past 6 years. She has successfully
orchestrated the marketing and promotional
campaigns for the last 7 Violator albums that each
debuted on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
Violator's street marketing savvy spilled onto the world
of film and television. Scott has secured countless
television commercial endorsements for her clients
and under the newly-formed Violator Marketing Group
(VMG, Scott landed the promotion contract for New
Line Cinema's summer picture, "Blow," starring Johnny
Depp and directed by Ted Demme.
Long before Hollywood officially came calling for Scott,
Mona made it a point to pursue broader opportunities
for many of her artists. She'd already cracked the
fashion and cosmetic field by brokering a shoe deal for
Busta Rhymes with Harbor Footwear for his Bushi by
GBX line, and a Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott's lipstick
through Iman Cosmetics. On television, former
Violators' A Tribe Called Quest, were the first rap
artists to hawk for Sprite soda. Missy pioneered the
musical artist/Gap clothing relationship when she
appeared in their commercials a few years ago and in
another more recently with Madonna. In 1998, Scott
convinced straight-laced Pepsi Company that Busta
Rhymes could sell Mountain Dew, so they agreed to a
30-second Mountain Dew radio spot. "Pepsi's is a very
conservative company, even though [Mountain Dew
has] this whole extreme image. It was about staying in
there, continuing the dialogue and getting them to
understand what I saw-that Busta and Mountain Dew
were a perfect match. We had opportunities to do
other beverages, but it was about finding a product
that represented Busta's extreme personality."
the secret to Mona's success is her beleif that "It's not
about color anymore. It's about the music you listen to,
the kind of activities you enjoy, the kind of experiences
you claim as your own, sharesScott."
br
The journey to become one of hip hop's most ardent
cultivators began for Scott at a placement firm for
graphic designers and art directors, where she first
learned about imaging and artist development. "That
was my introduction into the music industry." She
made her way through "trial and error. It was more
about common sense and intuition. I found I had a
natural talent for it." It's a talent Mona Scott has put to
good use since she began managing the original
Trackmasters, producers whom she felt needed to be
treated as artists. The Trackmasters team produced
such acts as R. Kelly, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey,
Noreaga, Cam'ron, Foxy Brown, Notorious B.I.G., Mary
J. Blige, Big Pun, MC Lyte, Fat Joe and founding
members Tone and Poke, eventually going on to
become senior executives at Columbia Records.
Mona was then asked by longtime friend Chris Lighty to
run the day-to-day of his Violator Management. She
went on to build, with Lighty, a roster that includes 50
Cent, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Capone'N'Noreaga,
Mobb Deep, The Clipse, Tweet and DJ Red Alert, all of
whom have mined platinum CD sales on one or more
occasion. With two children at home, Mona juggles her
personal and professional life with skill. For Mona
Scott, it's always been about making the impossible
possible for her artists, her company and, finally,
herself. And that is exactly what one would expect
from a 21st Century Renaissance sister and officially

"Jigsaw" Creekmur was working on another Internet
venture and the two combined forces and launched
the first version of AllHipHop.com.
The website launched in 1998 and has become the

site features daily updates, interviews, reviews and a

T.H.U.G.: Kim "KimberlyJo"Wilson
Grinding from the bottom up with over 15 years of
experience in the entertainment industry, KimberlyJo
has combined her diverse experiences and
opportunities to become a successful entertainment
executive.
Upon graduating from Hampton University,
KimberlyJo’s entertainment career began with work at
several labels such as Rap A Lot Records, Cash Money
Records and Young Black Brother Records. These
hands on experiences quickly taught KimberlyJo the
ins and outs of the industry as she began building a
tight network of industry connections that would lead
to opportunities in radio and retail promotions,
artist/label management, concert promotions, and
event planning/marketing.
All of these experiences allowed KimberlyJo to
capitalize on her interest in actual music production. It
was then that she joined with her father and brother to
open Inland Recording, a recording studio they owned
and operated in the state of Kentucky. Realizing that
Kentucky had a lot of talent, but was not the place to
expand her love of the music industry, she soon moved
to Atlanta Ga. Once in Atlanta, she jumped right into
the music scene and quickly learned to navigate her
way through the new Motown of the South.
After working on several independent projects,
KimberlyJo established herself within a strong industry
network. It was then she decided it was time to start
her own company, and founded Mind Flux Music &
Marketing, a company specializing in the creation of
marketing campaigns, promoting artists, producers,
labels and other music-related projects, as well as
large-scale urban event planning. Her client list
includes Billboard Magazine, Pro Bowl ’08, Nzone
Entertainment, and Jaime Foxx’s Laffapalooza to name
a few.
With the acquisition of many high profile clients and
projects, KimberlyJo decided to utilize her exceptional
access to the industry to merge her business into
artist/producer management and music publishing.
Thus creating, Class 1 Management, a company
managing artists, producers, songwriters and labels,
and Musical Thoughts Publishing, an innovative music
publishing company…all companies operate from a
unique business perspective that she brings to all ofher endeavors. Her most recent and proudestaccomplishment is establishing “The Future Of RealMusic & Entertainment (FOR ME)â€, a 501 (c) 3organization uniquely designed for high schoolstudents interested in pursuing careers within theentertainment industry. T.H.U.G. Carol Dorsey
Succeeding in the music industry takes more than justmaking good
decisions, for Carol Dorsey: Co-Owner and Co-CEO ofChopper City
Records, it took dedication, drive, and the will topersevere beyond
all obstacles.
"Getting into this business has to be something youreally want to do,"
states Dorsey. "You really have to cover yourself on allsides and be
hands on to learn a lot of things. Plus you have to beopen to learning
and realizing things are done a lot differently then theway you would
think."
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia and reared in NewOrleans, Louisiana since the age of 6, Carol Dorseynever set out to be in the music industry. As agraduate of Delgado Community College in Louisiana, where she was an accounting major, Dorsey fullyexpected to be in the corporate world. Transitioned
into this business we call music through her strongbelief's in the talents of her nephew B.G, who originallystarted out signed to Cash Money Records, Dorseyexperienced the true hustle and inner workings of
the industry. Though, over time she has quickly foundher own way through trial and error, she has stillcarved a working niche and place amongst some of thetop women in today's industry.
"When I first came into the industry, I came in blind,"states Dorsey. "I mean I knew about the normal stuffbut all the inner workings were new to me. My first yearwith Koch was really a year of 'show and prove.' Ilearned a lot, made some mistakes, but I grew andformed wonderful relationships with a lot of importantpeople that believed in me, BG, and Chopper CityRecords. This has really allowed me to know thebusiness and how it works."
Having truly experienced the struggles andfrustrations of an artist and up in coming label first-hand, has fully equipped Dorsey with the know how ofwhat it takes to turn things around, like learning theimportance of dotting i's and crossing t's in thisbusiness. Along with her nephew, Co-CEO BG as one ofthe three original deal makers Carol, BG, and Arnel Plainked a deal with Atlantic Records and Chopper CityRecords.
Presently celebrating 6 years since the beginning ofChopper City Records, Dorsey's day-to-day scheduleinvolves the handling of all business operations, planning of talent, advising of projects, and thenecessary hands on work that makes Chopper City runsmoothly, which are all responsibilities she shares withOwner and Co-CEO, BG. With Chopper City Recordsstultified as a working and prosperous label, Dorseyplans to continue its success and growth in the yearsto come. "We really want to branch off into differentareas besides rap," says Dorsey. " We will stillcontinue with our rap acts, since that is the formula wework well in. But, we would like to try our hands in anumber of other avenues." Carol notes, " I couldn'thave succeeded in this business without the talents ofmy nephew BG. We are a spectacular home team!"
Honored to be considered a true T.H.U.G, we saluteCarol Dorsey for her determination and drive inbecoming what she is today. We wish there were morewomen like her.
T.H.U.G. Block
It’s a definite good look when you’re celebrated in thehood for being so street, but it’s even bigger when theycoin your alias after the entire block. So speaks truefor Atlanta C.E.O. Russell “Block†Spencer. Block, alsocommonly referred to as “The Eastside Chevy Riderâ€,has transitioned from being a normal dreamer tobecoming a definite situation-maker, so it’s no guessthat when scouting labels for his roster, he fell rightinto the multi-million dollar section. With goals andaspirations that one could only imagine, Block is aliving legend that proves that it’s not always aboutwhat you get from the hood, but more so about whatyou put back.
Grinding is something that Block is no stranger too, buthe also attributes that same work ethic to his wellknown success; the two were actually synonymousonce this dedicated entrepreneur decided to committo music as his passion. Finding the passion seemed tobe the simple part of Block’s game plan, but deliverydidn’t come so easy. However, Block continued tocreate and maintain essential business relationshipsthat would not only take his career as a producer tothe next level, but would also place him in the best ofcompany including managing Tupac and the Outlawz,as well as label jumping, managing at top labels suchas Suave House, which was once home to legendssuch 8 Ball & MJG, and later working for Sho’NuffRecords; all of which ultimately led him to reach hisbiggest deal yet, inking a joint venture with Bad BoySouth, and giving the world such talents as YoungJeezy, Jody Breezy, Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe, and acomplete roster full of starving artists waiting for theirturn at bat. Block Enterprises has blossomed from amere street idea to one of the most prominent labels, which continue to produce top radio spins, and remainbeating in local traps everywhere.
Blocks trail to success hasn’t always been pleasant, from a quick to change roster of artists, to the rumorsof losing financial deals, this genius continues to teardown those rumors and show the world why he’s alsoknown as the “street infiltratorâ€. From communityservice to putting together new measures of puttingrising talent on, Big Block has stability in the game thatconsistently sets records and has the power to keepthe world yearning for his every endeavor.
Thank you Block, for not letting life's trials stop yourhustle. Giving back to the streets on your rise to thetop. Continue to be a diehard T.H.U.G.!
T.H.U.G. Big Oomp
Perfection in the game does not come easy, and soreign’s truth for Atlanta legend Big Oomp. Fromgrinding on the underground circuit to finally achievingnational success, Big Oomp’s story is one that is notonly unbelievable, but a story that only few could havethe will power and persistence to see all the waythrough.
Oomp got his first taste of the music game in 1991selling mixtapes locally, which is where he noticed aninitial gap in the game. Seizing on any and everyopportunity, Oomp decided to seal the gap by openingup record stores all around Interstate 285, Atlanta’sinfamous highway perimeter that has been blessed insongs by many southern artists. After sealing therecord store deals and officially stepping into themusic game, Oomp knew it was time to fulfill the rest ofhis musical desires and capacities, which is exactlywhat he found in producing starving artists like DJJelly, Baby D, and DJ Unk. Owning Big Oomp Recordsand producing some of the most blazing andmemorable tracks are the least of Big Oomp’s credit;he has now sought after many gaps in the industry andcan take full credit for owning a publishing company, atelevision show, having DJ’s on two rival stations inAtlanta, and a whole lot more business moves that’ssure to continue the buzz already created by Oomp’sentire camp.
With all the success that Oomp has seen, one wouldprobably imagine that this mover and shaker might beseeking a much-needed vacation, but Oomp has noimmediate plans of slowing down. With productioncredits on upcoming albums from the industry’s bestsincluding, Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, Three Six Mafia (onwhich, Oomp is the very first non in-house producer tobless a three six track) and even the next Beyoncejoint. From hip-hop to pop, big screen to small; thissilent but deadly superstar plans to show the rest whythey’re immeasurable to his camp!
Thank you Oomp, for showing us how keeping yourgrind up eventually pays off! You definitely know howto make success seem so easy! You are certainly aT.H.U.G. to keep our eyes on in the future!
