Elizabeth Louise Burch

I make art about conditions in the world in hopes of making accidents out of predeterminate factors.

About Me

Elizabeth Burch is a community centric installation artist committed to the development of experimental spatial communications. She has actively exhibited her paintings, video and robotic interfaces in galleries and alternative spaces since 1995. In addition, she has participated in both activist and art communities, worked as an instructor of art, directed children’s education programs, actively written reviews of alternative time-based media and is the founder of The Global Experimentation Group. GE Group is a unique curatorial organization committed to funding under represented experimental artists and cultural practitioners.
Elizabeth’s art and cultural work in general, is engaged in a concern for the individual. She constructs poetics with virtual reconstructions of her own experiences or perceptions of the world. This is completed as a way to provide agency to her viewers, in hopes of challenging the participant to call upon their own background and knowledge to derive meaning from the work. Elizabeth’s most recent project POX, investigates the history of biological warfare and communication networks in a comedic attempt to address the difference between virtual threat and actual threat. Elizabeth is also the owner of a small wearable technologies company named Hell’s Handbags INC and freelances as a content developer/consultant. She completed her BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and a Master’s degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Elizabeth is now a Brooklynite. She is however native to Pennsylvania, having lived in Thrilladelphia and Harrisburg. At one point in the late 90’s she did however throw up her arms, resulting in her move to the Canadian Maritimes where she resided a few years.
