About Me

The Colorado-grown Spring Creek Bluegrass Band is a dynamic group rapidly emerging on the bluegrass scene. The band, which describes itself as Rural and Cosmic, began in 2004 in western Colorado. They quickly made their mark in the Gunnison valley as top acoustic musicians with unique vocals and soulful harmonies. Their unusual arrangements and fresh original songs make even the inexperienced acoustic listener an instant fan. Spring Creek left Colorado in the fall of 2005 for the flatlands of West Texas to hone their musical skills in the Commercial Music program at South Plains College in Levelland, TX. While studying at South Plains under renowned bluegrass veterans Joe Carr and Alan Munde of The Country Gazette, the band has grown into seasoned musicians and entertainers. Since they left Colorado in 2005 they have been on the bill at the Lubbock Music Festival and a new band showcase at the Argyle Bluegrass Festival in Argyle, Texas, where they shared audiences with bands such as Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, and JD Crowe and the New South. Hailing from Shallowater, TX, upright bass player Jessica Smith is the backbone of Spring Creeks signature sound. Smith grew up in a family tradition of music, singing shape notes and four part harmony. Her time-honored vocals and keen ear for bluegrass give Spring Creek their distinctive sound. Chris Elliott from Houston, Texas started playing music at an early age, with roots in traditional Country and Classic Rock. He soon was drawn to the unique sound of the banjo. After three years of studying with Alan Munde, Chris has created his own expressive and tasteful style.A folk revivalist turned flat picker, Taylor Sims combines poetic songwriting with the distinct sound of bluegrass instrumentation. Under the teachings of Joe Carr, Taylor brings life to the music with his harmonious vocals and rhythmic presence that drives the band. Alex Johnstone, a rocker from his youth, discovered his calling in the high energy, acoustic challenges of mandolin and fiddle. On stage his poignant style seems to speak from the heart. Spring Creek Bluegrass Bands debut CD will be released in the fall of 2006, with seven new originals and several other inventive arrangements. The face of bluegrass is soon to be changed, as Spring Creek brings their brand of Rural and Cosmic Bluegrass to your home town. The debut CD will be available on the bands website www.springcreekbluegrassband.com.Profile modified by: The CricketSoda Myspace Profile Editor
