About Me

*****I was born a Trucker's son in Dallas, Tx. Grew up (the verdict is still out on that) around Gatesville, Tx. Ok, actually Flat, Tx but nobody knows where that's at. Not that anyone knows where Gatesville is located....its near Waco for those of you wondering.************************************************** ************************************************************ ********* I've been singing ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper... BULL CRAP! Don't ya' hate when you hear someone say that? Look, for most of my life I had the crazy notion that I was going to play for the Dallas Cowboys or be a stuntman for the Dukes of Hazzard. Well the Duke boys got canceled and the Cowboys never gave me a call. Honestly, I didn't realize I was good enough to make a living at this (not that I am now) until I was about 22 or 23 and then I don't think I really got serious until I was 25. Did the "cover band" thing for a while in TEXAS and had the honor of being the opening act for guys like Chris LeDoux, Gary Stewart, Joe Diffie, Gene Watson & a few others that I can't remember. Then moved to NashVegas to be a big singing star. I played one gig downtown and by the time the band & I finished I realized I wasn't going to do anything with this town by playing cover tunes on Broadway for tips. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It just wasn't for me. So I started getting serious about songwriting. Ok, I'm not serious about anything but I began working hard on it and along with singing its something I'm very passionate about. I've recently completed a CD that you can purchase simply by clicking the "Buy Now" button. (ALSO AVAILABLE ON iTUNES) Because you need this CD & I need the beer money! Once you get the CD listen to it over & over and then make sure you let all your friends know how much you enjoy listening to Lonny Ayres. **************************************************** Disclaimer: All statements made by Lonny Ayres do not reflect the views of this website, any other website, Lonny's family or friends, the State of Texas, or anyone else for that matter. ********** Thanks for listening & give yourself a big pat on the back for reading this far. My Interests

Music:

Band Website: LonnyAyres.com
Band Members: I've got the core group set up in TEXAS. I'm currently auditioning band members to play local/regional gigs here in Tennessee. So, if you would like to pile into a vehicle with 3 or 4 other guys and play some music for little or no money get in contact with me!*****************************
Influences: I think you're influenced by everything you've ever been in contact with whether you noticed or not. My feeling is influences are like drugs. Some run through your body rather quickly. Others (the really good ones) stick around in your blood stream for a while giving you a great high. I've listened to everything. The first cassette I ever bought was Quiet Riot's "Cum On Feel The Noize" when I was in 5th grade. I used to like Michael Jackson for GOD's sake! Back in the "Thriller" days. I remember Mellencamp's songs on the radio BEFORE they were greatest hits. I thought Guns -N- Roses was the best band that ever lived right behind Poison...yeah, I said Poison. I had always listened to country. Guys like Hank Jr., George Strait, Keith Whitley. But when I really fell in love with music is when I "borrowed" a MERLE HAGGARD tape from my DAD. Man I wore that thing out! I still have that tape to this day. I wonder if Dad knows?****************************************************** ******* Some other guys that have influenced me are Jack Ingram, Steve Earle, Charlie Robison, Bruce Robison, Chris Knight, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Gary Allan, JACK DANIELS, Pat Green, The Great Divide/Mike McClure, JIM BEAM, Waylon Jennings, Billy Joe Shaver, & any of those guys that do their own thing and to hell with everybody else!
Sounds Like: Chris Knight, Jack Ingram, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, John Mellencamp, Charlie Robison, Pat Green, old trucks & whiskey. You tell me. It sure would be cool if someone compared me to anyone that I listed above.

The Cure for Road Rage

I recently had to purchase a $500 piece of junk to drive because my '71 Chevy Time Machine with an 8-track has broken down.  I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it.......

This Town

Some days...ok most days I bitch about this town.  The traffic, the construction, the wannabes, the sleazy record execs, the state of country music, its not TEXAS, the list goes on.  ...
